I own a Philips CDD4851 CD-R/RW, and have a problem where my CD drive refuses to read any CD I put in. It was working fine over the past year, but since yesterday it has not worked. I am currently running Windows XP, and was wondering if anyone has a link to a working driver for my CD-R or any other suggestions to help fix my problem.
Thanks
Unless you've changed something in XP, it doesn't sound like a driver issue but rather a hardware one. You say it won't read any CD. Will it write to a CD/R and can that disk be read on another machine? How about a music CD? Do you mean it will not recognize any media you insert, written or not?
And then there is always the possibility of a virus.
I'm having the exact same problem. It worked fine last week but today it won't read or write any CD I put in. Music, Data, Original, Copies, etc. The computer detects that the drive is prosent but does not detect that a disk is in the drive.
Can you boot the XP CD from it?
If not, then it's likely a hardware issue. I cut my time loss quick and try another drive.

Did you find a solution for this or have you replaced it
did you find a solution
Did you guys find a resolution?
does anyone have a fix?
You'll have to use the above discussions or start fresh with your specifics. So far, I don't see how your issue is different.

Has anyone found an answer to this drive note functioning??
Do the test to see if the drive works.

I had not tried to burn a CD for a few months. This week I tried to burn some pictures with my Philips CD4851 CD-R/RW and it went wild. First I got repated messages telling me the was no CD in the drive and to put one in, there was a new Verbatim CD-RW 80 in the drive and these are the ones I have always used. Then the last time I tired it gave me the same message. I ejected and put it back in. The drive started then the light when out. I tried to burn the pictures and got the message again. When I tried to eject the CD, it came out spinning like a top, the drive had never shut down. I tried it again and the same thing happened. If I close it without the CD it does stop running. Time ti replace the unit?
