Firefox is excellent and highly recommended. It works very well and "looks" similar to IE. It is all I use except for occasional content that only seems to work in IE, which is rare.

Go to internet explorer Tools/Internet Options/ Advanced, and uncheck Display a notification about every script error.
If your a XP user, try this too:
Right Click My Computer and select properties, Look at bottom for Error Reporting button, click it then under Error Reporting put a dot in Disable error reporting.
Uncheck - But notify me when a critical error occurs.
If your really brave soul you can Right click My Computer, select Manage, It will open up Computer Management. Once in there Open up Services and Applications, find Services and walk through them finding any services you want to disable. Better write down which one's you change in case you need to change something back.
With all microsoft's IE problems who needs error reporting! IE has so many faults i'm supprised you can even launch it! Before I switched to firefox disabling error reporting solved my IE encoutering problem/ closing problem.
Be sure to set a Restore Point first if you don't know what your doin.
While your in Computer Management Why not take the time to run Disk Defragmenter. Do a little house cleaning on your computer first removing some temp internet files, Temp folders, etc.
Better yet try Firefox v1.0
I'm not going back to IE unless they can impress me like firefox does!
Hope this works for you all! Don't stress yourself out too much with IE lol.
The most frequent errors I get are RunTime errors -- problems with scripts on pages that IE then wants to debug, and most of us have no idea how to handle that.
This is what I did, and decided to stick with Mozilla, it works and it has features to remember your username and password for you. And I like the secure lock that you would see in the URL. Last but not least its seems quicker than Internet Explorer.. Just my 2 cents.
Just switch to a better browser like Mozilla Firefox. Internet Explorer is most insecure browser right now.
My computer began experiencing repeated crashes and error reports after I downloaded Microsoft's Service Pack 2. After reinstalling the original XP most of the problems vanished. They came back again with the SP2 update downloads. It seems there are clashes between the SP2 update and the drivers of the existing hardwares, especially the video card driver. I am now going after updating the drivers.

I TOO HAVE BEEN SUFFERING WITH THIS PROBLEM
I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN TO DO WITH POP UP STOPPER CLASHING WITH POP UP BLOCKER ON IE TOOLBAR.
SO I UNINSTALLED POP UP STOPPER AS STILL HAD SAME PROBLEM AFTER I DISABLED IT.
BUT MADE NO DIFFERRENCE,SO I DISABLED IE TOOLBAR POP UP BLOCKER.
STILL NO DIFFERENCE, THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO COMBAT THIS PROBLEM,IS TO HOLD DOWN CNTL KEY WHEN HIGH-LIGHTING ANY OTHER HTML LINK- OR USE MOZILLA AS I HAVE NO SIMILAR PROBLEMS WHEN USING THIS BROWSER.
Dellboy, I have had the same problem with the following browsers, Firefox, Opera, Omni200, Avant and Advanced Browser.
I welcome any suggestions on dealing with this nuisance problem.
To co-exist with Windows version-anything: (1) perform system maintenance (Norton Utilities) daily; (2) install free adware and spyware utilities recommended by other responders; (3) dump everything you can from Microsoft. That starts with IE (I HIGHLY recommend Mozilla 1.7 and its built-in email) and includes Office (again, HIGHLY recommend Software 602 suite), 9[10]Series media player (use free Real Alternative after converting WMA to MP3 and WMV to MPEG). In general, ask yourself if the purpose of your life is to work for Bill Gates for free. If you decide not, and take a few, simple steps to quit that loser of a job, then believe me: life without Bill becomes downright enjoyable.
Hello, I have the same problem. I have XP Pro , the latest IE and all updates. I have adaware. spybot and Norton. The problem still is there, however I found that it happens on certain web pages, such as playing games,(somewhere in playing the game I will get the error), also I found some pages on Ebay would cause the problem. "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". I decided to try Mozilla's Firefox and I get the same problem and on the same web pages that I know cause this problem. So I decided to try plain old Mozilla and the problem is gone, at least as long as I use Mozilla. When I go back to IE6 and Firefox, the problem returns. So I have gotten used to going straight to Mozilla when I have the problem. I am using Mozilla 1.7.20040.25472. If someone could find a cure, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
Running into problems with some websites but not others suggests privacy controls are to blame. For example, some CNET pages featuring videos cause my IE to crash unless I turn off ZoneAlarm Pro's privacy controls - both Cookie Control and Ad Blocking. Same thing when I try to listen to the correct pronunciation of words on the MSN Encarta Dictionary site. So while the first reaction is to think there is a problem with IE, the issue results from the interaction between the firewall and something like the Macromedia Flash Player required to view the content of some sites. This is not an instance of software incompatibility, but rather one of your firewall and/or privacy software doing its job - and doing it darn well. Customizing a few settings will probably solve the problem.
I have no doubt that were I to put my mind into it, I'll come up with the right program/privacy settings and get rid of the problem once and for all. But until I get a chance to do so, it is easier to just turn off the privacy controls temporarily. This is a work-around rather than a solution, but it allows me opportunity to spend time helping others on the CNET forums! ![]()

Check out the entry titled "Addendum to this week's 'winning' answer," near the beginning of the thread, as well as my reply to METAUSTIN's RE: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem..." a few lines later. They might help.

The solutions offered in the Knowledge Base Article are themselves enough to tell you that you're up a hostile creek in a leaky canoe.
I used my institutionally provided Windows laptop for two years (with exponentially greater and unceasing battles) before throwing in the towel. Went to a Mac PowerBook and in two years, not a scratch. Unless your work or some blind allegiance is forcing you to live in Fortresss Microsoft, you should realize there is a cool breeze blowing along a white beach at your nearest Apple store. (Not to mention real joy in computer use.)
You better hope your doctor doesn't share your attitude the next time you get ill...
Solving computer problems is no different from a physician diagnosing and treating an illness. Take it from someone who knows - it's much easier to search the Microsoft Knowledge Base than go through medical school. Plus, the latter is free.
