but i have to admit ive gotten good support from people in india (bellsouth) and the philippines(linksys).
you need to keep in mind that the u.s has a huge trade deficit and is really bankrupt. the dollar is worth squat. we have become our own banana republic.
as for dell, well they dont look so hot right now. but, then again, neither does hp. c'est la vie as they say in america.
The below comment to which I am responding, is something I have been feeling for the past three months since I have purchased my Inspiron Laptop. It is just too frustrating for me to deal with the same problem with the laptop over and over, spend hours on the phone with a tech and have the problem not be resolved.
I have asked to speak to a North American Language Speaking person- there are just so many misunderstandings with the East Indian techs.
I will never ever purchase anything from Dell again. Never.
There are some sport shortages here and there so the failure is not unheard of.
I just reccomended another 500 buck Dell for an office to run their video surveillance system and it's just fine. On top of that they got a LCD screen and the CDRW drive in that price.
I'd do that again any day. This is a repeat setup and I'd rather do systems than futz with a PC anyday.
Bob
All computer company use India Dell most of there Business support in the United States depends on the warrenty you by If you get Gold Support Your call going to Round Rock Texas or Twin Falls Idaho you tell me who has onsite next Day service if you call Hp Compaq Gateway you got to get your Credit card out to get support. Other computer company's are any better off than Dell HP has problems and others company's does to.
Thank you for your help.. Still no computer.
my name is steven and I have had a computer that was purchased from dell in 2002. we have had many problems with the unit starting two months after recieving it. we have called many times to get help with the system and at a few points we knew the computer was trash and we had asked for a return or an exchange for a working system. we still paid for it the whole time in the last two years knowing it was never going to work right. they screwed us around and blew us off until we were out of warranty just less then two months ago. if there is anyone out there who knows of a good lawyer or knows someone else who has had similar problems and would like to get a hold of me to maybe start a class action law suit, please email me or drop a line in this forum. thankyou very much for your time.
Steven:
Here's the address of the people going against Dailmer Chrysler on the Durango ball joint issue. They might be able to guide you. http://www.ademilaw.com . Let us know what you find out. I have 3 Dell's & am not happy with them or their (HA!) tech support.
I personally sold over a million dollars of Dell computers over a two year period. Many of these were from their outlet store (which have the same warranty as a new one). The reliability of these computers was excellent with less than a 2% problem rate. You don't get to be Number 1 unless you are doing something right. I figure the people complaining about them are in the 2% catagory, but even our 2% problem computers were handled well overall by Dell.
Okay I have had my Dell since 2001. It is a Dimension 4300 Model. If I were to say it hasn't given me any problems and has been reliable, I would deserve to be hung for lying to the utmost extent.
Specs:
Pentium 4 Wilamette Class 1.6GHz 100MHz FSB
1024MB PC133 SDRAM (Maxed Out)
Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Atlantis 256MB @ AGP 4x
Dual Drive (Burner and CD Drive)
A single Case fan *ONLY* Cooling CPU Due to Dell fan mount and cover encasing CPU.
Cheap P.O.S. Heat Sink from Dell
Another Cheap P.O.S Heat Sink for CPU (Also from Dell)
I do extensive gaming and I KNOW my machine is not meant for it but i am on an extremely tight budget. I personally will NEVER go DELL again in my life. I have made the best out of this junk, i am on it right now. I have pushed it to the end of the line.
I would like to adress the cheap parts Dell uses.
1. Processor:
The P4 Wilamette Class in 2001 was 4x worse than the Northwood Class of the same time, $50 more. Why did Dell decide to put the crap Wilamette in their top PC of the time? Ask them I have NO clue.
2. SDRAM:
Why would they use old, obsolete SDRAM when DDR2100 was out at the same time for cheaper. The 4300 was their TOP PC.
3. Cooling:
There is no temp monitor in the computer, but by playing for 2 hours, shutting down, then feeling Heat Sinks, I burnt myself. CPU Must have been running at a good 75 Degrees Celcius, EASILY. I even totalled my 6 month old GeForce FX5200 128MB Vid card due to poor cooling. I just went out and got a brand new ATi with a fan instead. My single case fan runs at about 0.005 RPM doing pretty much nothing. I am getting a custom computer made only by ME with MY parts. I would strongly advise EVERYONE NEVER TO GET A DELL. I have told friends and family, if I see you with a Dell, I will smash it to pieces. By purchasing a Dell, I have thrown away $1987.23. I would also advice pretty much everyone to ditch Intel and go with AMD. They run SO different from Intel. Any gamer would want an AMD they last longer run better and perform ALOT better. If anyone would like to object, please do.
On the grounds that you outwardly admitted you purcahsed a PC that was not built for your intended use. Don't blame Dell for your tight budget. My son also games pretty heavely and he started out with a Dell. Worked just fine for him until his gaming got more involved then he built him one to meet his needs.
I'm currently typing (at least until it locks up or blue screens again) on a Dell Inspiron 600m that I purchased 3 months ago. This notebook is in bad shape. However, after several calls to hardware and software support I'm still in the same situation. I've even asked them to replace the notebook but each time they put me on hold for hours and brush me off. I'm completely stuck.
Dell is terrible, the reason for so many sales is their cheap prices and advertisement division. If they would put some of their advertising staff into the tech support they might not be as bad.
Before you realy decide to order a dell think you may be one of them 2 % i have been fighting them for a month now paid out but no machine nobody cares not even the after sales care and as for the sales dept them self they want to go back to school and learn basic selling and keeping the number one happy and not passing the buck to another dept I will never ever ever buy a DELL again
I am very intrested in this!!! I have had the worst buying experience with my DELL and since my inital return period is over (30 days) i cant return it! If given the choice I would return my system in a heartbeat. I have spent no less than and very possibly more than 30 hours over the phone and have had more than just shoddy service its the company from HELL!!! feel free to email me! (email address: puttersonsale@yahoo.com)
I have ordered 7 Dell systems for our department through our corporate purchase program over the last several years. We have a premier account. I could get better service at McDonald's. 5 of the 7 computers have had issues right out of the box. One wouldn't even power up. We are supposed to have next day onsite service but they do everything in the world to get us to fix our own brand new computers! This last one I have spent countless hours on the phone, troubleshooting, replacing parts etc. waiting the last 3 weeks for a replacement that didn't show because they lost my order and now they are finally replacing it and had the nerve to tell me I should be really gratefull because they were able to get approval to send a NEW unit instead of a refurbished for my 1 month old computer. Thanks Dell!!
