is very slow! Diskeper 9.0 is ultra fast, does not hog resources and runs in the background. Or you can try the free version (Diskeeper Lite) that you manually start to try it first. URL:

the first time you use Perfect Disk will be slow. Subsequent uses will be sped up. And it also runs in the background.
I persdonally enjoy Norton Products though I have never used Norton Systemworks. Perfect Disk keeps me happy with what it does.
I like Diskeeper that is what i use and it has a lot of good features you can set it and 4get it it wil run on its own...
Add one more vote for Diskeeper (9.0). It works fast, it works well, and it doesn't choke your system while it's running. So I can read posts and defrag at the same time. I suggest it to all my clients.
PS: Good people too - they answer questions and really seem to care, both before and after you purchase. (Try THAT with Norton, etc!)
The best in my opinion is neither of those but Diskkeeper from Execsoft. It runs in the background and has never let me down or caused a crash in the 3 years I have had it running.
When I used Win 98, Speed Disk did a great job, but it's less effective on XP than Win XP Defrag.
Norton chews up mucho grosso system resources & noticably slows down even very fast systems. Better off to use the standard windows defrag, or the one included with System Mechanic works really well. Norton is the pits. So is their antivirus. Grisoft does a better job & is FREE.
...difference between "efficient" and "more efficient" ? For most people, it's only the $$. WinXP defrag does not cost extra $$.
Neither. I'm still an old faithful Windows 98 2nd Ed. user. I highly recommend you buying Diskeeper. It defrags the hard drive very fast. The programs start very fast. I believe that using the Windows or Norton Defrag System takes a long time to defrag. Using them will lead to wear and tear of the hard drive a little at a time.
I believe Diskeeper from executive software is the full version of the xp defragger and it is the one that I use and am satisfied with.
I prefer speed disk but it is horribly slow. It does a preety good job of defraging your hard drive. Other replies to the question should stick with the question and not digress.
I have used the Windows defragger and have had to shut off the wallpaper, power control and screen saver. 40 Gb disk took almost three hours.
Running Diskeeper it took about an hour and half. I did not buy it because I have Norton Systems Works with Speed Disk and Disk Doctor. I could not run Speed Disk when I had the Diskeeper loaded
Nortons defragger will run with the screensaver and other background stuff running. The more often I run it the faster it becomes. I do this at least once a week so it finishes in about 30 minutes.
I have both Norton and Diskeeper and the only difference I have found is that Norton can move all your files into one continuous block, but diskeeper can leave them spread around the disk. Also Norton has caused my PC to crash when used.
I used to have Norton AV but it slowed my PC to a crawl on bootup.
it puts the disk together
what do use then instead Norton AV?
thank you
