MicroSoft PhotoStory 3

by jayohallen - 1/14/05 8:05 AM In reply to: dvd slide shows by pedsmom

I agree. PhotoStory 3 is a great program. It is from MicroSoft, it is free. You can create Ken Burns type panning, all types of transistions, add music, narration, and text. It even includes quite a bit of generic music with the program. By itself it will not burn dvds. I used Roxie to burn VCDs. I think it is really impressive.

I think that the Answer given is not the proper one,
he asked:..."and I was wondering, how he did he do that, and could I do it, too?". I dont see in the answer how you can do it!!!!

Slide Shows on DVD's

by maceudora - 1/14/05 7:35 AM In reply to: 1/14/05 Slide shows on DVD by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I attended the CES 2005 in Las Vegas. An exhibitor called Serious Magic demo-ed its Visual Communicator 2 software. My feet were tired and they offered a place to sit. They did one of those 'See how easy this is demonstrations' As usual it was smooth and very effective. My feet recovered and went on to tour the next 5 acres of exhibits. The next day I returned and they had another demonstrator doing another great project with music, wipes and fades, video clips, stills and live interviews (with himself) and a green background that can be visually replaced with any still or video you like. This time I could not resist the show special. I layed down my plastic. Within 3 says I had the software, with microphone and a large green background (all included) in my hands. I dedicated a day for trying to familiarize myself with the software. No need. I had a finished product in about 2 hours without reading the manual.
The software kit is expensive (especially if you don't get a show special) but Man the stuff is awesome. You can make a newscast that would make CNBC blush. I am doing a project on my last trip to San Miguel de Allende and I am on my way to Vietnam. I think when I come back I will do a dvd to promote my business.
I highly reccomend it.

Arcsoft DVD Slideshow was good

by aquatic - 1/14/05 10:54 AM In reply to: Slide Shows on DVD's by maceudora

Arcsoft DVD Slideshow worked pretty good for me. I found that if I used too many different transitions that it would stumbled every once in awhile. They had a free trail version that let me burn a slideshow. I like it.

There is also a review of slide show creators here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1746201,00.asp

At the end of your response you mention "make sure you always keep a printed copy". What exactly do you refer to as a "printed copy"?

Slide shows on DVD

This is a question that once again highlights how the Mac OS shines. This is a feature BUILT IN with all DVD burning Apple Macintosh Computers. iPhoto and iDVD make very easy choices and a super-professional looking main menu page to boot. You can also combine your pictures, photo albums and movie clips into iDVD with specialized themes and music.

I am not saying "nyah n-nyah", but with the introduction of the Mini Mac at UNDER $500, maybe some of you will consider owning TWO machines without having to switch. I know a lot of people who say "if the Mac were cheaper..." Well now if your chance to use the slickest, crash-free OS in the consumer world. As for the hardware, the Mini Mac is so versatile for its size. I think you will find that the built-in and INCLUDED engineering for Audio, Video, Internet, Wireless, iTunes/iPod, DVD, iCal, iSync (my personal fav.) will open your eyes to a new generation of integrated computing. "OUT OF THE BOX" ready, no third party shareware necessary.

making DVD slideshows

by mikewilson1 - 1/14/05 9:25 AM In reply to: 1/14/05 Slide shows on DVD by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I purchased the Minnacle Studio 9 software and am in the process of making a DVD slideshow for my wife's birthday coming up.
I ran into many problems by making the DVD on the wrong type of DVD. I made a small test DVD, burned it, and it played well. I then made a larger DVD and it would only play on my computer - neither of my DVD players would play it. I called the tech support people and they suggested recording at a slower rate - this reduced the quality severly, and still would not play. After several calls they recommended I try changing from an R+ DVD to an R- DVD. I did this and found the DVD plays in one of my two players, but not the other. I'm still trying to get it to play in all players.
As far as the software is concerned. I really like the system. I recorded voice and was able to place it anywhere in the movie timeline and it played easily. I was able to add pictures and transitions easily, and then add CD music stored on my computer (MP3/WAV) and place them anywhere. You are able to preview the movie easily, pausing, and modifying as you go.
Bottom line - the software is great and once you learn the technique it is a powerful tool for the novice. There are several toutorials out that show how to easily use each feature.

All, I just built a slide show for my sons first Birthday party. It pans, has kewl transitions and allows you to add mp3 music in the background. When done it burns to a DVD that plays on your cd/dvd player in your living room. It impressesed everyone and I was very please with the final version.

Hi there Jack L

by rockyray - 1/14/05 10:25 AM In reply to: 1/14/05 Slide shows on DVD by Lee Koo (ADMIN) Moderator

I make my own dvd's all the time and I enjoy doing it so much. I have an eMac computer that I bought about 8 months ago and the software that came with it was awesome. It has iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, and iTunes already in it and also garage band . With iPhoto I have been able to put all my photos onto my computer neatly organized. iTunes let me down load all my favorite cd's into my computer as well as purchase new music. iMovie lets me put my own personal music created in garage band or songs from my iTunes list into it and then drag my photos in to create great slide shows with lots of my own choosing of personal effects. I can even download my own live video recordings in there and make actual action movies out of them. When I get all organized and have it the way I want it to be I simply go to IDVD and make a DVD out of my project. The great thing about it is that if a photo is messed up ---- like maybe someone's eyes came out red instead of blue or maybe someone had a cold sore by their face or some other type of flaw --- I can edit all that out in iPhoto before I use that picture. This is the first computer I have ever owned and trust me I'm about as smart with the operation of one as a 1 year old. But eMac really made it easy for me and with in no time I'm making DVD's for my mom and dad who live 750 miles away just like a pro would. Check it out. It's well worth the money for all the things that come along with it and how simple it is to operate. Good luck.
