The new 5GB hard drive H10 will only support MP3 and WMA...
No more OGG and ASF
What made iRiver a unique brand disappears
They become another mainstream brand like Creative
Really deceiving
That's pretty poor on iRiver's part. OGG is a main reason ppl stick to iRiver...
I am curious, how many of you believe that iRiver's
recent actions will truly hurt their sales?
I believe it will mean sales of the H10 won't be as strong as their previous models...
The H120 and H320 had no real competitors (there are other similar players but not with the same features)
On the other hand, the H10 will face the Zen Micro, iPod mini, Rio Carbon etc which all have about the same characteristics and a lower price
Well "Zorg" if you want the perfect machine...you'd better get working on one, because from what I've read, nothing will ever make you happy!!! I think the iRiver H10 looks fantastic, however iPod fanatics will bash because they're jealous of it's features, and people like you will ***** and moan because it has no "OGG" - whatever the hell that is. The general population will never use OGG format, so it makes sense to simplify and focus on the extra features. You need to get a life and find better things to ***** about.
I, for one, welcome such comments.
OGG is a mystery to me, too, but I have become a much better informed consumer from such contributions. It would be fair to call me an idealist because I expect that pools of more discriminating buyers informs the marketplace. Manufacturers (and their product designers) seeking to create or expand potential markets will often seize upon these opportunities. I have seen how successfully free markets (i.e., competition) provide an incentive to fill such demands. Some of these features, consequently, might only be found in fancier units at first but the more useful of them trickle down to commodity-level products.
In short, we would do well to follow Zorg's lead in pursuit of the 'perfect machine' by sharing our comments in forums such as this so please keep complaining!
Thanks Heidi !
BTW, As far as I know this is a forum which means a place to exchange ideas and give opinions.
Are we supposed to post only positive reviews here ?
The purpose of my comments was to inform those of you who consider buying this new H10 that they won't have all the features that iRiver used to offer and show my disagreement with it.
As for OGG, it is a much better format than MP3 and WMA
Just compare the audio quality / size ratio and you'll understand why it's not useless.
If enough people complain iRiver may change its mind and re-introduce those features (if you don't they will cetainly not).
And last but not least, as clients, yes, we can ask for the best machine.
We are paying (quite a lot) for it, aren't we ?
Demand Leads to Innovation.
Hey Zorg, keep the postings coming. Without them there would nothing to discuss. Personally I don't use ogg because my players don't support it, but I hear the sound quality is much better the mp3 and wma at half the bit rate. Maybe if some newbies would listen and take note of current technology updates they needn't post such negative comments....
