I am guessing this is not legit. Has anyone else seen this type of message on their PC.
I am running Win XP on a Dell 4550.
Thanks,
John D.
The windows messenger service supplied with the OS is being exploited probably so I would recommend "shoot the messenger". It's a small download and free. If you still have the problem afterwords, post back.

In SP2, Messenger is finally disabled by default.
Without SP2, you are missing a lot of security patches.

No I have not installed SP 2. Last time I did this I had many problems after the install.
Do you know if things have improved with SP 2?
I just took everything down yesterday morning on my PC and reinstalled all that came with it.
I am also running Norton Internet Security to help with Trojan's, virus, etc...
Thanks for the feedback!
John
It's expected that the users clean up their machines for SP2. Microsoft has taken the stance for years that if you have a virus (or in this case spyware) on your machine and a patch screws up, it's your fault.
There is no sign this will change.
Bob
as long as YOUR computer is prepared, your should have no problems. There IS a lot or prep though and you can't leave out any steps.
You have to be completely prepared for SP2 which means. Spyware free, Adware free, virus free BEFORE you install SP2, Also go to this link from Microsoft which also has links inside of it that will tell you what to do to prepare, including programs that are known to have problems which you may have to patch BEFORE you install SP2. Also go to your computer manufacturer's web site to see if any programs that came with your computer (non Microsoft programs) that need some sort of a patch BEFORE you install SP2. After all of the above, you should have no problems. Here is the Microsoft link. Hope this helps.
