Cannot install Norton downloads.
by groucho333 - 12/29/04 10:40 PMSince 12/23 I have spent countless hours trying to get help from Symantec. I would appreciate suggestions.
On 12/23 I spoke to someone at Symantec (India) and that person had me uninstall Norton System Works 2004 and then reinstall it. Since then I have been unable to install the downloads from Live Update. This AM (3:30) I called and waited two hours to be connected to a real person (the music they played didn't thrill me). Again I was instructed to uninstall all Norton components (Live Update; SystemWorks and Go-Back) The time the "Technician" left me was 8:30AM. She told me to do the uninstall and then re-install and then run Live Update (yes, re-booting after each step). She then told me she would call back no later than 10:30AM. She never called.
I don't care to spend hours on the phone waiting and I cannot even find an e-mail address to complain to.
Any help would be welcome.

I would try GLB's suggestion first but if that doesn't work, IF it's just live update that isn't working, try uninstalling it from add/remove programs and redownloading and installing the newest version directly from the website. You can get it here.

by phattdaddy - 12/30/04 2:52 PM In reply to: Cannot install Norton downloads. by groucho333There is aproblem with reinstalling NAV2004, if you have not cleared all elements of 2004 from your registry it is nigh impossible to reinstall the darned thing.Go to this site at Symantec this should help with your problem.

I ran AdAware on it and found 225 spy ware entries in the files, folders and registry.
After it was cleaned up the NAV pop up came up and advised the virus definitions were months out of date. I had to run the live update about three times to get the system back up to date. Spyware WILL kill live update and that is not the only computer I have seen it happen to.
Also you never mentioned what version of Windows you were runnning.
