Hmmm

by Jeff411 - 12/25/04 3:02 PM In reply to: Check The Speakers Compabilities by tsranch

Nothing works in the motherboard output jack. I've tried both headphones and other speakers and nothing.
And yes the light is green on the speakers.
I've been at this for three days now and still have no sound..so no offence taken.
This digital/analog thing ....I've never heard of...the jack accepts the plug from the speakers same as my old computer...

digital?

by dcrewchief - 12/25/04 4:58 PM In reply to: Hmmm by Jeff411

digital or analog is a setting for the sound. should be found in advanced options for the sound somewhere. if you have it ticked for digital then you wont here no sound. you stated pc is new then make it the manufacturers problem and exercise your option while its under warranty. thats why you have a warranty. not meaning to sound harsh but they made they should fix it.

buy a new sound card?

by glb613 - 12/25/04 4:31 PM In reply to: No Sound by Jeff411

Have you considered this option? They are cheap and easy to install. Sound Blaster has a card for $29.95. I'm sure there are other brands that are just as reasonable. Here is a site to compare.

Onboard sound BIOS enabled??

by seafox13 - 12/25/04 5:41 PM In reply to: buy a new sound card? by glb613

By integrated sound card, I assume that you are referring to "onboard sound"? Have you been into CMOS set-up and checked the sound setting in the Bios, or checked the motherboard manual for possible jumper settings for onboard/PCI sound card switch?
Just a thought.

Check Asus jumpers

by Strayhorn - 12/25/04 6:44 PM In reply to: No Sound by Jeff411

Look in the manual, if you hook up front sound you give up the rear output on most of the mb's. I think if you take of the front panel wires and put the jumpers right for rear it will work.

Nope

I still haven't figured this one out.
Even though I already had, I went through all the suggestions above again just to make sure I didn't miss anything and still nothing.

I'll go mad over this one....haha!

since it isnt' working........

Why not install a new sound card? How much time have you spent trying to fix this problem? I do understand wanting to figure out what is wrong. Sometimes I will not stop until I find the answer. But, it could be as simple as the onboard sound stopped working properly. Parts fail. Hardware fails. Perhaps it is the jack itself that no longer works. For very little money, you can have a new sound card and be back in busniess.

You can try to cheat and see if you’ll get some clues.

Insert the speakers connector to the blue port and select the option for using 4 channels speakers.

Also, do you have any PCI card inserted in the PCI 1 slot ? If so, move it to another free slot.

P.S. Did you contatct Asus ? If not, why ? If yes, has their answer helped you out?

Good Luck,

are you sure you check it well?

by spy HH - 12/27/04 11:48 AM In reply to: No Sound by Jeff411

well, this problem is not common on win-xp but some times gets to happend,

you may try to resolve the problem by:

1-checking in control panel, the sound card configuration.

2- if you have sound manager, go there from control panel and seek for multi-speaker configuration or the headsound jack configuration!!

it's also possible that the speakers might not be compatible with your mother board or they are dammaged!!

did you checked those speakers into another computer that didn't had the same motherboard type as yours??

you can check that out, and find more questions!!

Jumpers sound like the problem

by Merl Priester - 12/28/04 6:27 AM In reply to: No Sound by Jeff411

I just got a new ASUS board.
The onboard sound has 2 jumpers on the Front Panel
connector pins.
Left audio out jumpered to the left output in back.
Right audio out jumpered to the right audio out in back..

On mine there were NO jumpers(left off by mistake). I hooked up the Front Panel of the case, which jumpers the connections and piggybacks another wire to the front of the case.

If you don't look for the jumpers in the manual and on the mainboard, you may never get sound out the back.

No sound

by aglennon - 12/28/04 3:58 PM In reply to: Jumpers sound like the problem by Merl Priester

Can you get into the BIOS? Make sure any reference to Integrated or Onboard Audio, etc... is "Enabled".

Also, check ASUS's website for any possible driver updates for the board's integrated sound.
