I have a 5 year old Dell Inspiron 7000 notebook (300 mhz, 256 mg ram, 10 gig hd, Windows ME, partitioned into 2 drives) running in a Netgear wireless network. We use it for email and unloading pictures from a digital camera. Because ME is soooo unstable, I was considering an upgrade from ME to XP.
My other notebook is a Dell 5150, 3.06 ghz, 768 mg ram, 60 gig HD, XP pro on the same network.
My question is: Would it make more sense to offload the applications from the older 7000 to the 5150 and access them via the network (I am assuming it would be more stable) or to upgrade ME to XP pro? From what I have read on this forum, it looks like I would be pushing the 7000 to it's limits.

That older system just really wouldn't be able to handle XP in a fashion worth using. Trouble is, your network idea won't really work either. While Unix's X11 has been doing networked applications like that for over a quarter century, Microsoft has yet to "innovate" that feature into Windows. Best you could do is VNC, which is kind of a pain to use IMO.
If you can get your hands on a copy of Windows2000 Pro, that might be a better alternative. It's virtually the same OS as XP, only it will work MUCH better on lower end systems because it's lacking all the eye candy of XP. When you compare the prices between XP Pro and 2K Pro they should be about the same.
