added additional IDE PCI Controller and new hardware

I added a zip drive to the new controller and set it up as master on that controller, the secondary IDE port on the motherboard I have a CD ROM and a CDROM RW, the ZIP works fine (after considerable effort installing the controller drivers) but now my CDROM RW is not recognized, can't access it (message: not accessable) also WIN XP seems to think it is only a CDROM. The CDROM is master and the CDROM RW is slave (original configuration). any suggestions?
What I would do
by TONI H - 12/22/04 4:42 AM In reply to: added additional IDE PCI Controller and new hardware by yardkatzis boot to safemode, then check in Device Mgr to see if there are duplicate entries for the harddrive and/or cdrom devices. Whether there are duplicates or not, remove them all, then reboot the computer.
XP will redetect them and they should be right again now in device mgr.

But the good news- I can burn to cd with Nero. So it works pretty much. thanks again...

by Coryphaeus - 12/25/04 4:55 PM In reply to: installed additional IDE PCI controller and hardware by yardkatzInternal Zip drives don't like to be on a PCI controller, don't ask me how I know. Put the optical drive(s) on the PCI controller and the Zip on the mother board secondary controller.
