I have WinXP. I added a zip drive to the new controller and set it up as master on that controller, the secondary IDE port on the motherboard I have a CD ROM and a CDROM RW, the ZIP works fine (after considerable effort installing the controller drivers) but now my CDROM RW is not recognized, can't access it (message: not accessable) also WIN XP seems to think it is only a CDROM. The CDROM is master and the CDROM RW is slave (original configuration). any suggestions?
is boot to safemode, then check in Device Mgr to see if there are duplicate entries for the harddrive and/or cdrom devices. Whether there are duplicates or not, remove them all, then reboot the computer.
XP will redetect them and they should be right again now in device mgr.

Thanks that seemed to work, I still have a message (not accessable) come up though when I double click on the icon in 'my computer'for the cdrom rw (when there is no media) the other cdrom gives me a message to 'insert disk'. But the good news- I can burn to cd with Nero. So it works pretty much. thanks again...
Internal Zip drives don't like to be on a PCI controller, don't ask me how I know. Put the optical drive(s) on the PCI controller and the Zip on the mother board secondary controller.
Good luck,
