You have what I have plus some extras. Here's a tip keep the nav,spywareblaster,spybot-search and destroy and adware, then get rid of the rest. If you need any more assurance go to those free online spyware checkers.
Tell me what I basically need to protect my computer without getting yet another piece of software
with respect to Spyware and Adware.
as to what you already have for protection. It would help to know that.
Currently, I have a box full of protection. Aside from Norton internet security (2004), I have:
Ad-Aware SE Personal
a-squared startcenter
counterspy
etrust pestpatrol
ewido security suite
spybot search and destroy
spyware doctor
spywareblaster
spywareguard.......
Spybot -Search and Destroy keeps finding DSOExploit; I keep deleting it, it keeps coming back.
eTrust PestPatrol has found a KeyLogger. I left it on, and ran everything else, even the long running Ewido and A-Squared did not find it.
Nothing besides Spybot found DSOExploit...
And my machine is running slower and slower as I add these things. I will be removing a couple. PestPatrol will remain, as will adaware and spybot. Edido might, the rest will probably go......w
rid of the DSO Exploit too. That is a bug in Spybot. There has been a beta fix released for it. Just download it on top of your current version. It will change your version to 1.3.1TX After you download it, run Spybot S&D, let it fix the exploit, then reboot and run it again. It should be gone, if not, just put it into ignore until Spybot comes out with a permanent fix for it which should be soon. I'm not sure if the rebooting is totally necessary but it seems to work better that way.

I did a search on spykeylogger and it comes up in some cases as a computer protector (a positive), meaning you can see what has been typed on your own computer.
Pestpatrol shows it as an invasion>
So, is it malware or just something that is resident on all machines?
Hi Arne, there have been a number of discussions lately about false positives with Pest Patrol lately. That seems to be one of them. This link here is one of the threads. If you follow the thread down you'll see what I mean, parituclarly to Marianna's post with a link to one of the HijackThis forums where they report the same thing . It is PROBABLY a false positive.

Thank you, will read other posts on subject....
Please clarify to all concerned. no matter how many
spybot, adaware, blaster etc..firefox etc. the issues that router protection is better than above etc... this is a evolving issue like everything else is.
more later. ![]()
apart from anti-virus and firewall, I think the conventional wisdom is pretty much to use adaware and spybot (regularly updated, of course).
I would add Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File:

I started out life with Adaware. On the recommendation of our IT guy, I downloaded Spybot.
As a comparative study, I first ran AA, and then ran SB.
Adaware found 36 things. Spotbot found 43.
I'm sticking with SB.
