Firefox--no history?

by drpeg - 12/15/04 11:45 AM

I just downloaded Firefox 1 today on my Windows XP. I can't get anything to show up in my history, i.e., if I visit several sites and then do Ctrl+H (or Go> History) the sidebar remains blank. Please, I'm very new at this, so I'd appreciate it if you'd explain the solution in detail (for example, I browsed thru posts and the Firefox FAQ and found references to doing things with profiles and had no idea what they were talking about, or how to find a profile).

Thanks for any help you may offer.

The fiefox on my PC has a history icon on the toolbar.
It isthe shape of a clock at 8 o'clock. Click it once - the history appears, click it again and it disappears.

For those of you on Mozilla - it is where it always was - Edit/Preferences/Navigator/History.

I format and re-install XP Pro every month on average. It doesn't like any apps, including MS versions. Patchwork quilts, like Symantec products , really need this. They're not repairable. With a clean HD, the first installs never go bad. Every subsequent one asks for trouble. If you don't want to format to make sure you've got a clean HD, at least use task manager to shut down EVERYTHING you don't need to run the OS, and try a re-install. I haven't used any HD cleaners or uninstall programs, but if you have (a) good one(s),
you can try them before you reinstall Firefox. My history was fine from the get-go, although I wish I could import it like IEs Favorites, which I still use , at least until I can get the hang of Firefox. Good luck.

That is what I want to know. If you did an upgrade install, or even a completely new install, why would you have to redo it on a monthly basis? I upgraded from Windows ME(mistake edition) to XP Pro and have not had to do a reinstall but once, and it was because of my own twiddling around nature that caused a problem that required a reinstall to fix. Now I leave it alone and it runs just fine.

Don't forget to check out Firefox's

Don't forget to check out Firefox's application extentions here.

There are alot to look at, all add some kind of functionality to your browser. Some are just for people who can't find where to change the settings. Others truly add abilities.

There are a few that do add history. :)

about:cache

Just enter "about:cache" in the Location Bar and go from there. It's been that way since the days of Netscape. I believe in IE "about:history" works.
