How ya' doin' ? Ok here's my question : Is it ok to delete all temporary internet files and cookies ? I have been told that you have to be careful which ones delete and by the same token i was alos told that it didn't matter . So which is it ?
Yes, you can delete the temporary internet files. The only thing wrong with deleting all the cookies is that the places that use cookies to sign you in won't know who you are the first time that you return until you DO sign in, including CNET, if you are using the "remember me option".
Roddy 32 is just completly correct.
as far as i know its fine to delete cookies and temp files.i do it at least once a week and it can free a lot of memory up
Sure you can delete temporary files, they're temporary ![]()
If you try to delete a temporary file that is currently in use, it won't delete, because the file will be locked, preventing the deletion.
If you delete the cookies you will find that if you had any signon names or passwords at that website, then you will have to re-sign on and enter a password. those cookies are often used to maintain that information for you (although it is somewhat encrypted, so it is not easily readable).
So, if you don't mind re-entering that info, and if you don't need to maintain data entered at a website to carry on to another of their pages (like a shopping list), then you could delete the cookies too. (I wouldn't, but if you want to, can't see what it harm it would cause.)
Yes, you can delete them ... in fact, before I shut the computer off, I click on C Drive, then Windows and then: open Internet Temporary Files and delete them all - open TEMP and delete them all - open RECENT and delete them all - open COOKIES and delete them all - open HISTORY and delete them all ...
If you don't mind having to sign in again or give your password again when you're going to sites you visit often ... me, I don't care and I prefer to clean all the garbage out every time I'm signing off ...
In fact, I found a program called 'Disk Cleaner' that I run automatically when signing on and it does all that and more for me ...
I've been using it now for about a week and now don't have to do the routine I told you about up above in this message ...
You'd be surprised how much crap Windows/Microsoft 'saves' for you, especially without you even knowing it ...

Well i don't ever use the remember me option that is available at any sign in so to me it is no big deal to sign in to any site i visit .. i was just wondering if deleting them was ok because i had heard that it can cause problems to do so . Thanks for the help . BTW as for that disk clean program .... where do i find it ? I was thinking of deleting temp files and cookies to help free up some memory and hopefully get the puter working a little better . ![]()
Replying to Wabbitkiller.
The software can be obtained from :-
http://www.ccleaner.com/
I use this software, you can obtain it free but I would advise you contribute a payment because you will then get updates automatically
I just downloaded CCLEANER, it appears quite impressive. It's very fast, it allows you to easily pick and choose which type of files you wish to delete. I chose to keep my cookies, I like being memorable. It acted as an internet eraser, and even fixed problems with files in my registry.
I am pleasantly pleased.
Thank's, for the tip.
Thanks for posting the link to this software.
I have used it on seven computers so far with NO problems. Some of them it made faster some it didn't
I have seen it find anywhere from 64MB of junk to a whopping 450MB.

Wabbitt, temporary internet files and cookies have absolutely nothing to do with memory....only hard drive space
you can set up internet explorer to delete temp files tools/internet options/general tabs, just select days to keep temp files , 0. You can delete cookies here too
After using my 'old gieser' (Win 98SE), when I delete all of my cookies, I find my computer more sluggish when using the web. I would be very selective in deleting your cookies, no matter what type of OS you use. Cookies can help, yet they also can build up too.
