Epson Stylus C80

by Racko - 10/1/04 11:57 AM

I really like the print quality from my 2 - 3 year old Epson Stylus C80. But I do have one problem with it. The black ink seems to leak into a recessed area on the left hand side of bottom of the printer. After a while it seems to build up so much that it starts getting onto printed sheets. I've used about a dozen cotton swabs to clean out the recessed area and it's ok for a while.

Anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?

Thanks

My C80 did the same. My bet is that the spill area was designed for some 3 or so year lifespan and you are now getting to clean it up.

I know of no fix, but for me the C80 finally failed and I've replaced it. Just a little over 3 years.

This is actually happens on other inkjet printers as well, mostly the older models. If cleaning it out becomes too much of a chore then you might consider replacing it with a newer stylus they have a model for $100 that prints photos, text, and write onto a blank CDR

Both my C80 and my neighbors have the exact same problem. Both are almost exactly 3 years old.

What is this: a design flaw or an incentive to upgrade printers every 3 years?

I ended up buying an MX-84 printer for just about the same price as the refills for my MX-80 printer.

Not a bad deal, even if it does last for just 3 years.

YES!!

Yep, from what I've heard, Epson printers are designed to be replaced every three years. The print heads are located in the printer itself and the ink dries and clogs them.

I don't know whether newer Stylus printers have solved any of these problems. Reviewers no longer comment on ink economy when reviewing printers, either because they don't have the time or have been told not to comment on such things.

As I said in another post, HP's weakness is its paper feeders. They jam constantly and apparently can't be repaired because it's a design flaw that HP can't or won't address.

The hp printers are not good. They are not designed for anything useful. I had one and it broke in a week. I went and bought another one and its ink got all messed up. The scanners are not of any quality. They dont have the quality as of my lexmark or Epson.

All Ink Jet printers have a cleaning station where the print heads are cleaned after a given number of printing passes if you do a lot of printing it can fill up. John

good-by Epson

I agree with most that’s been said so far but I see this discussion string has gotten quite. I guess everyone else did what I did...get rid of their C80! And you better believe I did not get another Epson. (Bought an HP 6540 which I love and works perfectly.) But, back to the Epson, I don't print an awful lot but I was always cleaning the heads and wasting ink. I guess the cleaning process is what causes an amount of ink to spit into this little reservoir. I, too cleaned it out frequently when I saw the ink overflowing all over the place. (The HP doesn't seem to do this and I haven't had to do anything to improve print quality since it’s been great!)
So, anyone who still uses their C80: plan to get rid of it!
