I have been building my own computers for about 8 years now and the only non-homebrew is my Dell laptop. It may be time to put something new together and I am trying to decide on what it will be, a dual CPU or an AMD 64. This is not a gamers machine, just a working computer (website design and maintanence) but I thoght maybe I would treat myself to something a little more exotic than the stuff I have done so far. No overclocking, no watercooling. Just something that will keep me not ahead of the curve but at least on the curve for a while.
Thanks.
I can't think of anything that will fire you up in order to be so giddy with the end-result. You can pretty much build anything with off the shelf componets and those are getting more on the glitzy side as cases are "so cool" now. In other words not you're basic paige box. Look into a new case of your liking with "cooling" potential, proper size, holes, rails, etc. for ease of mounting and placement of fans, HDs the whole 9yds. Then look for the best 400W+, or 500W p/s unit you can afford to make any items you install as stable as possible for operational voltage demands. Remember, "cheap is cheap" if you settle too often on cost the end-result can teach more lessons than you plan on. Decide then on a cpu and the related mtrbd.. Thus, the tasks required should dictate what you need and further make any longetivity plans as long as possible. Your past experience will be handy, in what OS you want too, but a dual cpu makes NT related a must. The AMD 64 cpu is the best they offer and Intel really hasn't come-up with anything solid and good plus is its really for 64-bit now if any s/w becomes offered. That's IMHO about it...
good luck
