Start with www.crucial.com for most machines.

It's not DELL-only like some poster implies. It's a standard type of memory that was popular a few years ago.
You'll have to just get it from Dell or other sources.
The marketplace wanted RAMBUS or RDRAM equipped machines. But after awhile the people who held the RAMBUS patents wanted too much money and DDRAM caught up to them.
This is not a Dell bashing point.

In response to your request about advice where to get more RAM for your PC: go to www.kahlon.com. They have great prices on memory, much better than Dell's prices. You will be able to drill down to your specific PC with ease and the product usually arrives in about 1 week.
Thanks halejr kahlon did the business.
crucial don't do RAMBUS
I suggest you go to a certified computer repair center and take your computer (only) with you. They will be able to look at it and provide you with the memory configuration you require.
If you still haven't found memory for it, e-mail me. I'll check back on the forum in a day or so if I don't catch a note from you.
Yes, Dell has gone downhill in my opinion--but overall, they're still ok. I just wouldn't buy from them before I'd buy from a few others; and I'd rather build my own!
We have a lot of problems with the Dells at the College I go to. Couldn't even finish my assignment for class later today!

For RAM upgrades, check the "configurators" at Kingston.com or Crucial.com. Their info is extremely helpful; and their prices are very reasonable. Plus, they are high quality manufacturers.

Try tigerdirect.com
I think you will be happy with their prices.
I had one; was excellent machine. I had to use Tech Support ONCE adn was given the usual run around reformat I toile the person in no uncertain terms that it was not necessary. And then I managed to hunt down the glitch on my own. Sorry Micheal Dell Yoout TS is better than Gateway ot Emachines tho and HP also
My Dell XPS Blue Computing Cube transports me down the Information Highway at lightspeed and is a computing machine par excellence.
In my dealings with their customer service I sense a culture of customer service parallel to the U.S. medical community...the customer-patient is the cause of the malady and is always wrong. Dell appears to have a "get 'em out the door...and keep 'em out the door" computer system sales culture.
I bought my XPS machine new six months ago. The flat panel mounted speaker that came with it didn't work on initial out-of-the-box set up. First, the Dell rep offered to replace it with a refurbished one under their warranty. I told them no refurbs, I bought new equipment and want a new equipment replacement."
Rather then have me send just the speaker back to be replaced with a new one, they had me return the whole delivered system back for replacement with a new replacement system arriving three days later.
I received a round of mailings telling me I still owned the system I sent back. I dealt with these via phonecons with folks in Round Rock and India. Otherwise it was a reasonably painless experience.
I've read stories here and elsewhere on Dell's poor tech-support. Based upon my assessment of their customer service culture, I tend to believe them. I hope I never have to dial Dell up for a tech problem on my machine.
All I want for Christmas is continuous Dell uptime ![]()
the biggest gripe about dell,hp/compac, gateway, is propritary software. stripped of that , and having retail versions installed , they will perform as well as any in the same class.
I have had a Dell Desktop since 2000,,It is still going strong with no upgrades other than replacing a cd-rw that died and Dell replaced that free of charge. As for reliability it is a great system that has not failed me yet...It is running a Pentium4...1.6 GHZ..256 Ram and a 40 gig harddrive with XP Home edition..My only recommendation is to make sure you have at least 512 Ram for more performance..Other than that I'm glad to say "DUDE I got a Dell"
We have many Dell servers (P4, double processor)and we are being pesteded with HDs problems. First time I saw so many RAIDs failures. Dell Service? Nonexistent.
I tried to purchase a Dell once. I had a Gateway computer that I loved but it was time to upgrade, so I was going to just purchase the tower and keep my monitor and speakers (had one of the first LCD monitors available from Gateway and loved it), and Dell has such great prices and I'd heard wonderful service and support. The Dell arrived and the monitor and tower were not compatible. Called Dell's SUBURB tech service and explained, and explained, and explained the problem. They indicated "not a problem" they would send me an adaptor pronto. When their box arrived I opened it to find ... a power cord. What? I shipped it all back to them and have stuck with Gateway ever since. May cost me a bit more, but tech service and customer service have been great to me the past five years. The power box for that monitor I loved so much slid off my desk and the monitor quit working - Gateway shipped me a new monitor no questions asked. I wrote to Michael Dell to relay my problems to him concerning his service department - I'm still waiting for his reply.
Oh, and there was no adaptor for that monitor even though Dell insists that there is.
Greetings!
I can't say that I have had a good experience with my Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop... My mom bought it in Sept 2001 and never used it... She gave it to me in May of this year and two weeks after the 3 year warranty expired, the keyboard, the hard drive and the ethernet card all went kaput, and Dell wouldn't do anything about it... I wouldn't own another Dell...
