What do you guys think about computers made by Dell. I am talking about Dell desktops. Are they reliable? Are they built to last? Do they perform well? WIll they last me a good 5 years? If you have had any experiences with Dell computers, please share. I would really appreciate your feedback. THANKS!
I've been using a Dell Dimension XPS D300 (Pentium II 300MHZ machine) since 1998, and it still does everything I need it to do. The subwoofer went out at one time and the graphics card got a little frisky at one time - Dell replaced both under warranty (sent me a new set of speakers and sent a technician to my home to install the graphics card). I'm happy with everything except their prices and the fact that they have so many different marketing twists you can never be sure you're getting their best deal. Every time I sit down to configure and order a new one I back away when what I want gets to be up around $2K.
I too have owned a Dell for some time - 6 years to be exact. I had a slight issue with the motherboard and Dell replaced the board for free and sent a technician to my house as well. I recommend Dell to all of my co-workers and family members. You can't go wrong with a Dell system!
I too recommend Dell as the system is better to use then any of its competitors.
I must recommend Dell every 10mins to customers and work colleagues, I have used the system for 6 years and nothing gets near it.
I have seen computer labs in school start with "Black Apple's" (that dates me) , progress into IBM PC's with 120mhz. It wasn't until 21st century that the school system went DELL. It has never looked back. Special prices for people in Education; great customer support; and lastly, you can't build them for what they charge now a days. I will even give you the link to look at.

Dells are not super computers, they are good business computers and if used so, the service is great! I wouldn't use one for a gaming PC because the to get performance, which you can't with their video cards, you will overpay in upgrades, but for business, I have their overpriced laptop 8600 with all of the upgrades including 24 hours fix it anywhere I'm at. Good if you travel and need fixing. For home and if you are new and need service, buy a dell, ther service is great and adds value. It you are a Pc geek, build your own or look at some other systems. Busness laptops and desktops are the way to go if yu but the extended warrentee, unless you need that pure open GL card, which I have on my laptop, not available on PV though?
When it comes to rack servers, look at EMC and HP. Or ask someone to check out Gartner's reports for you.

You said in your post..

I was wondering how you got your issue resolved... I have had this issue since APRIL 2006! Dell is completely blowing me off.... I actually had been having problems for about 6 months prior ... I got tired of calling tech going thru countless hours on the phone not spending time with my 2 yr old & staying up extremely late on the phone to Dell... I decided it was worth it to take my tower in & have it fixed locally... spent $180... had tests run, etc... they were going to fix everything, however, I was called about 2 hours after I dropped it off & I was told that it was not able to be fixed because the processor on the mother board was unstable & my computer would crash if they tried to fix it & if the processor was not replaced, the computer would basically die...well... it is still alive, but barley...I called Dell & told them the story back in April, I even saw the tests re-ran by my tech when I told him I needed proof... It failed about ever single test ...I explained all the tests that were run & the result of the tests to Dell... I even had my local tech call Dell & they told him to send them the results... Long story short after a week or 2 I called my local tech to see what the status was, he had not heard anything & called them again... after he finally got them to call him back another week later, he then called me... he told me that a Dell Manager (I even have his name) told him "Never call here again, we are not fixing this computer!"
Now I want to explain... I paid for the 4 yr warranty, my Computer was & is now in the warranty period... Dell also told me several times...they do NOT have people locally that will fix any problems.. I am SO Sick of their crap... I just want this fixed, I DID pay the money or the full 4 yr warranty & I think they just want to stop honoring the warranty's... I know quite a few other people currently going thru issues & Dell will not do anything. I won't be buying another Dell, esp. if they don't fix this!
Dell also had me wipe clean & reinstall everything... I didn't even load all my programs back on & it was just as slow as before the re-install.
Anyone with ANY information on how I can get them to stand behind & replace the processor / motherboard... I would be so very grateful.
Thanks in advance
I had some horror stories about dell. But I had to do the work myself. I installed another motherboard, ram, hard-drive, added a dvd drive, changed the power supply, changed the motherboard. And I did it all myself. saved alot of money.
I see alot of Dell systems and repair a few too. Plus, many more and really no system is failsafe from whatever can happen out there. However, let me say, I haven't heard so much pissing 'n moaning than Dell users when the support that they pay for gets bog down for whatever reason. That can happen to any co. but it seems Dell users cry the most and somethings I can't blame them. The systems are good but the support is lacking and seems to be downgrading from years past. I suggest you get the best deal you can and pray for the best, IMHO.
good luck -----Willy
Like Willy I work in the field, and could share all kinds of support horror stories from any major computer company, but by far Dell customers suffer the most. As far as I'm concerned all the company's have about the same hardware, i.e. it came from Tiawan, but when it comes to support, Dell is a miserable company to have to deal with. They promise much but deliver headaches and downtime.
Good luck to all.

dells are good but the reason you get a lot to repair consider who is using them are they smart or what
Dell has based their entire marketing straegy based on "Dell quality support". It's a mirage' for the individual. I have even been sidetracked when trying to purchase parts for my Dimension 8100, (RAM),. Willie has it correct, support is deminishing greatly!
Dell"s computers have gone down in quality and support 95%. I had to return 2 computers a total of 4x due to breakage and lack of support. They don,t replace new computer with like they sent me abroken older one than a new one in less than 20 days. Also all they ever want to do is reformat the hard drive. The equipment is light plastic and the monitor has a thin film which begin to glisten and show colors only after a few weeks. Their stuff is thin poorly constructed materials with low quality hardware. No one should buy Dell. Go to Totally Awesome computers.for the best warranty and support. Dell Return To Your Garage.
My current pc, which is almost 6 years old, has had very few problems and dell has always been helpful. My HD died about a year ago, and was off warrenty by then, but the cost of a new, and bigger, HD is pretty reasonable these days and dell assisted me in installing the correct drivers (even though i was past the end of my dell support term). My monitor is finally going, but 5-6 years is a reasonable monitor life.
Based on my experience I would recommend dell highly, but check with those with more resent experiences as well.

I got my PC for $817. Intel P4 with HT, 3.0 GHZ, 160 Sata HD, 512 MB Ram upto 4GB, DVD ROM and DVD burner with doulble layer +-RW, 128 Mb video card and 17" LCD monitor. Awsome system.
Those who have nothing good to say about Dell. What do they know about computers to start? I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 4700. Built in Califronia worked great out of the box. If anything did not work I would use the free one year service after that I would replace things on my own. Most if not all pci cards are easy to replace. How ofter do mother boards go out or even hard drives?
Dell is good and from most of my research everybody complains about the tech support that each PC builder has.
