I read in several magazines in my country that XP means "eXPerience" because Bill Gates said that Microsoft has enough experience in the development of Windows as an Operating System. Thatīs what Bill Gates said in an interview. I hope I`m right about your questions.
X-Platform ... it's a not to subtle recognition that this interface came from X-windows ... where "X" stands for Xerox ... the originators of the WYSIWYG interface ripped off originally by Steve Jobs and Apple. There was a viable X-windows interface in the mid-80's but Microsoft ran Digital Research out of business ... an action for which they ultimately paid a paltry $20 million to settle out of court.
WHEN XP FIRST CAME OUT, I KICKED AROUND THE SAME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE MEANING OF WHAT "XP" STOOD FOR...
AFTER LONG AND CAREFUL THOUGHT ON THE MATTER, I DECIDED THAT IT MEANT....
"Xtra Profit" for Microsoft.... pretty funny, huh? but altogether true...
I also wondered what "ME" stood for....
I came up with...
more money for "ME" bill gates.... benn laughing ever since, until XP SERVICE PACK 2 CAME OUT AND SCREWED UP A LOT OF COMPUTERS BY SHUTTING DOWN THE COM PORTS IN INTERNET EXPLORER... GREAT FIX FOR A SIMPLE PROBLEM, HUH?
NOT SO FUNNY ANYMORE...
NOW WITH THE ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF "LONG HORN" IN 2005, I AM FIGURING OUT THE MEANING OF THAT ONE...GOT IT... I, BILL GATES, AM GOING TO "STICK IT TO THE PUBLIC" WITH MY NEW LONG HORNS.... HAH...BEWARE OF LONG HORN... I HEARD THE HAD ISSUES WITH THE NEW OP SYSTEM, AND THE PROGRAMMERS WANTED TO DELAY RELEASE TIL 2006 TO FIX THEM, MICROSOFT DECIDED TO RELEASE IT ANYWAY AND FIX THE PROBLEMS WITH A LATER SERVICE PACK RELEASE TO ADDRESS THOSE CONCERNS... TYPICAL MICROSOFT PLOY... GET THE MONEY NOW AND FIX THE PROBLEMS LATER....BEWARE OF THE INITIAL RELEASE... IT COULD BE WORSE THAN THE XP SERVICE PACK 2 FIASCO... ANY COMMENTS?
Well, according to Microsoft, XP stands for "eXPerience". Couldn't help but answer this one only because it was plastered everywhere when XP was released.
According to Microsoft, XP is short for "Experience"
Other fun trivia:
NT is short for New Technology, which was dropped after NT 4
For ages Designers and engineers have used XP athe early stage of product development so all would know internally it was a " new" or Experimental product.
X is a symbol for a kiss, P is the first letter of Pig, ergo - Kiss the Pig!
The XP stands for experience
If you look on the Windows XP CD case it says experience
IN the US Air Force, X has always been the nomiclature for eXperimental. As for the P, well, computers run Processes. Therefore it is my beleif that windows was an Experimental Process that sorely went wrong.
I believe as well it goes for eXtra Problems, and it's
been put in a very cute way by Microsoft... as a smilie!
Just look at it tilting your head left...
Windows happy > =)
Windows kapot > XP
Now, that's one troubled smilie, isn't it...? ![]()
Experience
How about "X"tremely "P"rofessional software that allows 99.9% of everyone out there to view and communicate in this forum.
I agree. Too many people bash this O/S, yet it gets the job done. Like I stated in an earlier post, MAINTAIN YOUR COMPUTER. It is not that hard to do. I know many experienced in general computer users that never have problems as long as the use windows update and spyware removal. Sure its fun to bash and poke fun, but how often does it do what you need it to?
Something like Xtra Pricey!
or maybe Xtravagant Piece
or Xtra Pepperoni
or how about Xciting PC
or X-rated Pipeline (I love the Net)
But seriously, I believe Microsoft saw XP as eXPerience.
It is simply means "Windows Experience"
