I am looking to buy the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 and can get it much cheaper of the web than a retail store but I loose the option for an extended warrenty (like Circuit City 3 year)
My question is whether or not the 1 year manufacturer warrenty is enough. In all of my experience with electronics I get the extended warrenty and never use it or if something has gone wrong it happens in the first year anyway.
Warrantees' and guarantees' are a strange thing. With the money you pay, you are making a bet that thier device is going to break. They are betting that it isn't. One of the most profitable businesses is selling you extended (protection). Are you a gambler, lay your money down. Good luck!
After sitting down to read the warranty the poor salesperson went into some spastic fits, but I found the passage that chills that sale everytime for me. It goes like this:
"If the repair costs exceed the value of the warranty then we reserve the right to refund the warranty cost (some limit or prorate the refund!) and return the (unrepaired) product to the customer."
What good is this? Not much.
Beware extended warranties.

On the upside, I do like most factory extended warranties since all I've read don't have this exclusion. And the factory or maker will actually have the parts and people to fix the product.
Think about it.
