Typically it's a sender problem. We can assume your system settings are ok because you mostly get the pictures.

VERY simple answer: Use yahoo mail. I have been yahooin since Yahoo originated and have had no worries.
After building or buying 11 computers, I have immediately disabled Hotmail and OutlookExpress every time and installed Yahoo mail and messenger. Their new toolbar is fantastic and blocks pop-ups with near perfect success.
The choice of an email setup is almost a matter of religious conviction, if you will excuse the metaphore. Web mail interfaces such as you are apparently using with Yahoo mail have their conveniences if you are on the road a lot or only receive a small volume of mail.
However, there is nothing like a standard email program and a POP3 or similar connetion to an email server if you handle lots of email every day. The email is always there when you want it if you have a 24/7 connection as many (the majority?) of us in the US now have. Even without a 24/7 connection you can arrange things to dial up in off hours and download the mail so it is there and ready to be viewed when you are.
You may also have stumbled across a feature of Yahoo that I'm unfamiliar with. When you said Yahoo! mail, I assumed the free service with the web only interace. In the US using Yahoo! mail with POP3 costs money. Is there also an email program provided by Yahoo! to take the place of Outlook Express, etc and provide the conveniences I mentioned above????

This is a variation of the above question. Several people send me email attachments which I am unable to open on IE because they are earthlink mail messages (*.eml). I am able to open them on Firefox. The senders are not using Earthlink. Can certain adjustments to IE make it possible to open these messages. Curious why some attachments are earthlink mail messages. Thanks

Hmmmmm.... That's a new one on me. EML normally stands for E mail and is Outlook Expresse's standard way of storing a message if you use the file save as command. If you open an EML file with notepad you will see that it it is just plain text, but with a very careful and formal structure as provided by Internet Standards. Absolutely nothing magic there.
If you have the standard Windows set up, double clicking on it will open it in Outlook Express and it should read perfectly OK. Otherwise you can right click and use Open With ... to check it out in notepad and to open it with OE. They will also open with Internet Explorer in the same way.
OTH if it is some earthlink exclusive format, then you should take it up with earthlink tech support.

WHAT ABOUT MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2003
Yes, what about Outlook? The rule to avoid problems is still the same. Forward as an attachment and send a copy to yourself to check to see that it has gone through.
You will have to look to other vendors for software to handle images in programs other than Outlook Express. Three Bears has explicitly decided to avoid Outlook at this time because of issues involving malware which can be kept under control relatively easily while playing in the OE environment, but not in the Outlook environment.

I'm having this exact same problem except it's when =I= view some websites on the Internet or such pages are sent to me.
I MAY also have the Outlook problem as I've had people tell me now and then my photos are just markers, and I HAVE to get those showing 100% of the time. I printed out the article.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to eliminate this very nasty problem which I see all around this page on CNet, on eBay (can't even use the site which I need), and many others.
I got it cleared once this past week on the Internet by dumping everything and changing some ActiveX lines to either disable or prompt. I've tried the "default" process too, but it comes back right away. I have stuff automatically cleaned up by two different programs too. I just need to know THE one right answer for all those little boxes on the Internet before I lose it here.
I'm just guessing as are people at a great techie forum on the Internet.
I've been asked to uninstall and reinstall I.E., but it's just toooo much (in my mind). I have Win2000Pro with SP 4 with I.E. 6.0. I want to fix not end up formatting my hard drive.
Thanks.
I took this to a new discussion regarding red Xs in white boxes. Please look for it with regard to Internet Explorer doing this bigtime to me! Thanks. Sorry that I didn't think to do it that way at the outset. I didn't mean to mix apples and oranges (maybe they are related, but I want to be sure I get this thing fixed so I can see what's out there on Internet!).
Thank you for your patience.
First accept that little red X's are a fact of internet life. They are what Internet Explorer displays when it can't download and or process the picture that the web page designer has specified. There can be lots of reasons for this. The most typical one is that the picture no longer resides where it is supposed to be.
Second, if you have access to another computer - such as at your local public library - try some of the same sites there. See how your experience there compares to your usual pc.
Third, clearing the internet explorer cache is something you should do regularly. MS says that it manages this for you, but if you believe that Baby Bear has a pot at the end of the rainbow he wants to sell you. Mama Bear recommends clearing the cache at least weekly during while stuffing the clothes in the laundry.
Fourth, don't be surprised if you have to screw around constantly with your Internet Settings if you are trying to stay reasonably secure most of the time. Fancy sites use fancy technology which can be used to do nasty things to your PC if they are used by the wrong hands. So It is a good idea to keep your Internet Settings on as high a level as you can tollerate. However, that means you either have to readjust regularly, permit occasional exceptions, or not enjoy the full effect on some sites. However, this should have little to do with little red X's.
Fifth, do NOT reformat your hard drive. The other day I woke up to a PC that did nothing but reboot itself everytime I restarted it. Just one endless reboot loop!!! Fix???? Trivial, just followed my nose through a reinstall chosing the appropriate options. I certainly did NOT reformat the drive as part of this. I'm not much up on 2K anymore - that was 4 years ago after all. But you should be able to pull the same thing off. Don't be surprised if you have lots of updates to do afterwards, but that should be all.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Al
Use another email client than Outlook Express, which is not best suited for home email use. I use the Mozilla suite (browser and email/newsgroup in one package). The Mozilla product dedicated to email is called Thunderbird. It works well, is free, and will be less prone to viruses. Go to Mozilla.org to download. You should be able to export your email data from Outlook to Thunderbird.
Or you can get a Mac and almost never worry about it.
my regular e-mail sends pictures. However, pictures from like Sears and other online e-mails come with red dots.I so not remember changing any set up.I do think I downloaded sp2.
Any direction would be helpful.
I use Incredimail for my e-mail. I am not sure if there is a change on how pictures are handled. Is there still a problem? I always forward to myself first and see if those red 'x's show and if not I forward to all I want to share the e-mail with. If that problem doesn't happen when I sent to myself will the problem occur when I forward to others?
Great strategy. As long as you do things the same way both times it should work.

Al
