I have been using an old PB-1400 for word processing. (OS-8.1, G3). Backups are limited to floppies, and that is sporadic as the floppy drive is failing, and kind of futile, as my newer imac does not have a floppy drive at all..
As this computer has neither ethernet, nor USB or FIREWIRE ports, I cannot directly connect to my newer imac. I have been "emailing" my data to myself, which works, but is a pain, as the old PB-1400 is connected via a dial-up modem. Suggestions?
Thanks.... Jimz
Given that a network card and cable for any old PC is 5 to 20 bucks, you may be pegging the value of your data at less than 20 bucks. It's hard to imagine not getting the network card to move these files.

Sorry, no NIC card exists for the 1400 it has no PCMCIA slot and cannot be upgraded to Ethernet. One solution would be to locate an old localtalk/ethertalk bridge. I think you might be able to find an old Farralon or DaynaPort on ebay. What it does is allows you to connect and localtalk device to an Ethernet network. They were very popular in the old days and should be pretty cheap. here is an example:

Yes - you are correct - there is no ethernet port or capability for the 1400. I will try your suggested solution (localtalk/ethernet breidge). Thanks!
Sorry I mis-spoke. The 1400 DOES have 2 pcmcia (not cardbus) slots and can use most 16-bit pcmcia cards. here is an example:
