V710, Verizon and Mobile Phone Tools

by ejm999 - 10/14/04 9:48 AM

Anyone else have issues with Verizon and the mobile phone tools? I spoke with Motorola at length regarding them having to leave code out of the phone that would allow you to transfer files between the phone and a PC. The customer service rep at Motorola said Verizon made them leave out the software/firmware that would allow users to transfer pics/music/sound between the phone and PC. So users would be forced to use their "get it now $$$$" features to take advantage of features the phone should be able to use.

I have a v710 with verizon and tried using Mobile Phone Tools with it...it didn't work. The software couldn't recognize the type of phone, and it pretty much froze up. i guess the software isn't compatible with the verizon version of the v710 phone...i've tried software from radio shack as well, it was from futuredial..the sales rep said it would be compatible, but it too wouldn't work...i'm getting a little fed up over finding a way to connect to my computer with this phone. i'll probably try a bluetooth adapter on my comp, it seems to be a cheaper route than buying a transflash media card and an adapter for that. i've tried transferring media using PixPlace but i'm sure that my next bill will be high because it probably charges 25 cents each mms i send. if anyone has suggestions on this issue i'd appreciate it.

V710, Verizon Phone Tools Some tricks and Secrets

by Amwhoam345 - 11/9/04 12:27 PM In reply to: Re: V710, Verizon and Mobile Phone Tools by Hooper119

I own a V710 here are a few little known tricks.

1. Play MP3 with lid closed: select "hide" when you start the player.
2. MP3 continuous play: Create a Play list, add songs to it then play the play list.
3. RE the 128 chip. The chip is treated by the phone (and with the Dazzle USP adaptor) just like a seperate drive. It can hous ANY data. I even have my resume's on mine). But the phone can only recognize music, pictures and Video. I have seen cool photos on a website, dragged them into my 128 chip while in my laptop and then made them my wall paper.)

Power and Battery life. In general all rechrg batteries go dead over time. And although the L-Ion's are less suseptable to "memory" problems, it will develop one if improperly handled. First, make it a habit to allow the battery to drain until its almost dead then fully charge it. Also, like before going to bed, it's better to have fully charged the phone and then take off the charger, turn it off and back on in the morning rather than leaving it on the juice all night. Try these tips. You'll get a lot more life out of the batter. ONE NOTE. One MAJOR power drainer in the V710 is the main display brightness. If you can get away with keeping it on 2 or 3 you'll do well. above 3 and the battery will drain exponetially faster.

Good luck Dave Gntlmnwnedge@yahoo.com

I checked BVRP forums and it looks like the v3 version of mobile phone tools works with the v710 and you can buy it at http://www.bvrp.com/customers/motorola/v3/buy/ for 29.90 or 25 if you use coupon code tech42

I'm not familiar with the Moto V710, but there is a website which is not a "get it now$$$$" and you have unlimited downolads of ringtones, games and graphix. I'v only downloaded ringtones, but it is very inexpensive: www.3gupload.com. You have to put in which carrier you use and the phone model and make. It accepted my Audiovox from Verizon.

RE: V710 and Windows XP sp2

by mikeyvh - 12/17/04 9:04 AM In reply to: V710, Verizon and Mobile Phone Tools by ejm999

I have heard from numerous sources that the V710 will not connect with Windows XP running SP2. I have not tried with SP1 as of yet. I am able to connect the V710 via Bluetooth to my HP laptop. I am unable to get the phone tools v. 3.0 from Motorola to initialize though, either through a Bluetooth connection or USB connection. I guess I'll just wait for a firmware update, if that ever happens. This is really ridiculous after paying good money for what is supposed to be a great phone.
