computer keeps freezing

I've just cleaned out my compter and trying to reinstall windows XP PROFESSIONAL but when windows is loading it freezes up on me and I get a blue screen with this report:

Windows could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this as:
load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem.

can anyone help me plzzzzzz..

I'm pretty sure this is normal. You said Windows Xp....right?

Is there a way you could re-format the drive and start over...and not the "format" that the installation disk says it does...a real format (write zeros to the drive)?

I used a windows 98se floppy and did a fdisc and format and still it keeps freezing up when I try to install windows xp professional...I even tried to put in windows 98se and it still froze on me ..

That's odd. Maybe hardware..or firmware related? Installed any new components lately?

Hi freebe sorry what do u mean by new components ?..this is a new build it was working ok and all of a sudden it started to freeze up on me

you dont need to run any boot disk since windows xp is bootable. as for formating windows install disk will do this for you when it creates the partitions. i have heard the moderaters say over and over to not format the drive before installing windows. take it for what you feel its worth. it has been repeated so many times that there has got to be some truth to it.:)

Be sure you have and install your system/motherboard drivers. You may also need drivers for peripherals which use drivers outside the Windows OS.

Use the instructions from the Elder Geek site, "Clean Install Procedure with Illustrative Screen Captures."

Next time, try fixing the problem before doing a reinstallation.

I got it up and running and so far no probs ..thanx guys for the help..:-)
