I am considering buying an HP DV1000 at the local Costco, however I could not determine if it had the brightview screen. Can anyone tell me how to do this? The clerk looked through the box and could not find a spec sheet. We looked on the system and could not find anything about the display. The sticker on the notebook said DV1049cl.
http://search.hp.com/query.html?col=alldocs&qp=&qs=&qc=&la=en&fs=&qt=dv1000&ex=&rq=0&oq=&lk=1&rf=0&uf=1&es=0&ep=0&hpvc=US%20-%20English&ub=500 shows that there are 65 models available, from 1000 through 1075EA.
A few clicks further on one of the models you get the 'customize' screen which let you choose from different CPU's, OS'es, hard disks, displays (normal and brightview indeed). This might lead to one of the 65 models, or be customizable variants of any of them, I really don't know and I quit researching.
Better find a shop where they can tell the details of all 65 models, and the full customization options, so you can choose exactly what you like most. I wouldn't go for a shop having only 1 or 2 models without even knowing the specs.
Or visit www.hp.com for more study.
I don't think you'll find somebody here who knows all the model numbers by head.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can find out.
Its just hard to beat Costco's 6 month return policy if they happen to have what you want.
Hi,
I saw the same computer at Costco. I recalled it did have the brightview screen. You can tell its a brightview because the screen looks like it has a piece of glass or plastic covering the screen. It is also highly reflective. I love my H.P laptop. I purchased mine at Circuit City. It is model HP DV1040US. I got it for $1299.00 after a $150.00 rebate from the store and $50.00 rebate from HP. The DV1040US had a M 1.6 GHz and the one at Costco had a M 1.5 which isnt as powerful. Everything else was the same I believe. Anyway, I just love mine! Have fun shopping!
How happy are you with this PC? How is battery life, really? How well does it burn DVDs? I noticed the sound to be great! Is a 14 inch screen adequate for use on a daily basis?
