Help! My Powershot S50 Discharges Batteries

by dcolem01 - 10/3/04 5:49 PM

Recently, my Canon Powershot S50 has begun discharging batteries. If I leave the Li/ion battery in the camera overnight, it's dead in the morning.

At first, I suspected the battery, so I bought a new one. The new one suffers the same fate.

Why is my camera discharging batteries? I've cleaned the contacts, etc. Nothing works.

I emailed Canon, but they weren't able to help me. I was told to send it in for repair for $300. I might as well buy a new one for that price, and the camera still works. What can I do?

Thanks for any help anybody can provide. If you have any ideas about what this is, email me at david.coleman@mail.northcentral.edu

Thanks.

Such is noted widely in newsgroups. No solution found except to have Canon fix it. Or leave the battery out.

In fact, try that! Take the battery out of the charger after a charge and see if it holds the charge overnight...

"In the short term, the problem can be avoided by unloading then re-loading the batteries just after the camera is switched off. The camera's power supply will then perform normally."

Hey, no feedback please. Try it. Yes, I know it's not your camera, but do try these tests.
