ok first thing i would do is head on over to the control panel and select "add and remove programs" now look there in tht list that you have ... become familiar with your programs you have listed there.. if you see something listed that looks odd... dig a little find out what it is... select it and choose to uninstall.... follow instructions... now most likely you could have spyware installed without your knowing it... these guys are sneaky... examples are... webrebates.. dumb tool bar programs stuff like that. i would recommend trying that first before dippin into msconfig ... you may not have to..

I have found that msconfig does remove start ups for that session but you have to do it again when you next log on. Not much help for me over the long term.

Do you agree on this. Is there a better way?

You might wish to try out the task list located at:

You may also want to take a look at what is running in your system tray, to get an idea of what programs are running in the background at startup.

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll go there and check it out. I have been scrubbing stuff via the ADD/Remove programs..I download to much useless stuff..Thanks again. Appreciate it much. Ray

If you have an HP XP Home edition.
disable all startups in msconfig, then recheck these 3 things
KBD is your keyboard
PS2 is your mouse
RECGAURD are the 3 things needed to operate the machine, the rest can activate when they are prompted/needed.

avgcc32 if you have AVG Antivirus
zlclient if you have ZoneAlarm

your antivirsus and firewall are the other 2 that need to run. I listed the most common AV program and Firewall program should you happen to have these 2 ???

Hope that helps.
