One system is the master, and all other clients must have the retrospect control installed under root authority. This works well in our scientific establishment.

For example, I purchased a Maxtor One Touch drive that comes with Dantz Retrospect. After setting up the drive and initiating the process, my backups are smooth. The one thing I do note, however, is that you must instruct Retrospect NOT to backup files untouched since the prior backup, or you will find multiple copies of the same applications / files eating up space on your drive. I'm not sure if she's used it yet, so I can't say anything about ease of use or effectiveness, but maybe someone else knows more about it.

These are both bootable apps. If you want strictly data backup, .Mac has an app called Backup 2 that works with CDs, Firewire and .Mac online backup with the membeship.
