Comparing cellphone reception

by dpayment - 9/1/04 4:06 AM

I live just outside Ottawa, Canada in a "black hole". My cellphone is my only phone, and the reception where I live is somewhat lacking, to say the least. My current cellphone is a Nokia 3595, which at time of purchase, I was assured, had the best reception. Based on nearly a year's use, that's not saying much. What I'm looking for is the phone that has better reception. I'm not worried about most cellphone features, don't need a cameraphone, main criteria is reception, followed by small size. How do I compare cellphone performance, or is there a site that actually provides a meaningful review of performance?

Thanks,
Dan Payment

Before you decide what phone you get, you have to see which carriers offer service in your area. After that, you will decide which phone to get. Remember, not all phones work with all carriers.

I was aware of that limitation, and that could prove an issue. If the phone I have now is the best that my provider offers, I'm euchred til my current contract expires. Thanks for the reminder though.

Some phones work better at weak signals than others. I just purchased a Samsung SCH-a650 flip phone from Verizon Wireless and it works in more areas that my old Motorola 120c wouldn't. The number of cellphone towers in an area (depending on carrier) will determine on reception. Samsung and Nokia typically have good reception. If there aren't enough towers in your area, no cellphone will give you great reception.
