Best Tri-Mode Verizon Phone?

by kwh - 7/14/04 4:16 PM

I need a Tri-Mode phone with outstanding reception (I work in the basement of a building). Which Verizon phone would you recommend?

Thanks,

A general tri-mode phone to use would be anything from Kyocera. Those phones work in more areas than Motorola phone would. But working in a basement, unless it has plenty of windows and near a few cellphone towers, don't expect any phone to work in a basement.

Re: LG VX10

I've had my LG VX10 for a long time. It’s a basic Tri Mode phone. Wonderful reception in the Atlanta area. When I flew to San Francisco bay area again good reception there. Went to Medford OR spending four weeks in Rocky Point OR (quite rural).

At Rocky Point location I was on the Verizon Extended Network. Because of their agreement with the carrier there all my calls were non-chargeable. I never dropped a call however, the phone did jump from Digital to Analog to Digital. During that trip we often went to Klamath Falls, Medford and to many outlining rural areas as well. The LG VX10 performed admirably.

Would I like a phone with more features? Yes. Am I willing to pay for those features? No. My main concern is: can I make and receive calls. This phone has served me quite well. By todays standard this phone is dull, boring and the like. What I do like is it is a flip phone with a outside display.

I too have the LG VX10, have had it since 2002, and am very satisfied with it's reception. Most of the time, when in analog, it comes out clear...but there were a few times when the reception was very staticky (such a word?)...I haven't used too many other tri-mode phones, but this is an excellent BASIC phone. No fancy frills, but it does what a PHONE is supposed to do. They don't sell this anymore, but I'd go for a tri-mode phone over anything else. By the way, I'm going to upgrade in a few days...and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good camera phone with good reception from Verizon. Thanks!

I'd go with the new Motorola V710 or the LG VX6100. I'm more of a Motorola fan, I've had every kind of phone over the past 10yrs and Motorola top them all. No matter what don't get anything but a trimode if you want it to work just about anywhere.I do own both of the phones now ( 1 for work, other personal) if $ make the difference grab the LG not a bad phone at all. Good luck to ya

I presently have the Nokia 3589i. So far its been the best Tri-Mode phone I have ever had in a long time. It actually had 3 antennas. I rarely get a dropped call here in Indianapolis, IN. in the Verizon Wireless nertwork. I hope this helps.

I purchased this phone in July at Verizon. I agree with your view on call reception - it's the best I've ever had.
Maybe you can help me on these 2 issues, because Verizon sure can't.
VM Message Alert Indicator - mine only beeps once when I have a msg, and it used to beep every few minutes. I relied on the repetition I asked Verizon about it, & they said yes, that this feature had been changed, and there was nothing I could do about it.
Also, the Backlight only stays on 10 sec, or so & can't be adjusted.
What about your phone?

I don't know about the message alert, but the backlight is adjusted by pressing the System key (top left, small), moving one option to the right (Display) and selecting Backlight (option 1).

I have had my phone a couple of years and used it from coast to coast, New Mexico to Canada. Reception has always been excellent, and battery life is good.

I had a Motorola V60, which I decided to exchange after 3 years and so far I am not impressed with anything out there in tri-mode version. Why did I give up my Motorola? just because I wanted a new color screen, cooler looking phone! I think Motorola still makes better quality phones as does Nokia, all others I think are cheap (but cool looking) and full of problems. If looks, coolness is not a worry, then go with the Motorola V60. Good luck!

kyocera 414

by mko - 10/12/04 4:36 PM In reply to: Best Tri-Mode Verizon Phone? by kwh

there are two thing i especially like about this phone.
1...ear/voice volume. OUTSTANDING. it is crystal clear and LOUD. better than any phone i've ever tried. friend of mine said i was talking too loud, so i had to hold the phone away from me.

2...the name search. why didn't anyone think of this. you press a button for the first three letters of the name. it is a smart search that filters as you press each button. basically, it's predictive text input for your contacts without needing to go to a menu.

cons.......they are discontinuing the 414 and you can only get it at stores that have it.

Are you kidding me?

The kyocera is one of the worst phones I sell. Its biggest selling feature is its interchangable face plates. Theres only 2 reasons you would buy this phone.
1. You like pretty flowers
2. Your broke, most places give this phone away with a 2yr contract.

If your looking for a phone thats going to get reception in places others wont. Go with the Audiovox 9155, its inexpensive and it has the longest antenna out of any other verizon phone. This phone has been around longer than any other phone simply because it works. Ive had no customers ever come back with reception problems with this phone. Its not the prettiest phone, but it will work where others wont.

Kyocera 414 was the biggest joke out there. with battery issues and reception issues, i cringe every time I have a customer wanting to buy one. However, they have not all been so bad .. the 2035 was a good phone, awsome reception. But I had to comment on the 9155 audiovox... i sold that phone, and it IS still one of my favorites. It lives up to what all standards of cell phones should have, and although its not the prettiest of them ... IT WORKS !!!
