RTL8180L driver problem in a 802.11B wireless network card

RTL8180L driver problem in a 802.11B wireless network card

I have a realtek RTL8180 chip in a wireless pcmcia card and am trying to run in win98 and the drivers (I even downloaded the latest driver from the website) will not work on my laptop running windows 98. I get an error that shows in the system properties the following problem for the Realtek NIC (network interface card):

ndis.vxd and ntkern.vxd device loaders could not load the device drivers for this device

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I read your post and something tell me that the OS was not what came with the laptop. The issue with that is that drivers for the motherboard may have not been installed and Microsoft can't supply them. Try the laptop maker's web site for motherboard drivers or PC-Card slot drivers first.

Next, realtek doesn't make much more than the chip in the card. The error message is common in a laptop without motherboard drivers.

Thanks for the advice. I did install a new OS on the laptop so I will try the manufacturer for the drivers.

Exactly the same problem (Win98, laptop, RTL8180L, driver won't load). However, the card slots work correctly for everything else, including a modem, 10/100 LAN card, external CD with card plug, CompactFlash reader, and others. So it doesn't sound like a card driver problem.

Just battled one like this.

A new problem to this brew is not only motherboard drivers, but in a twist on the driver issue.

This Windows 2000 OS laptop had a Linksys USB Wifi and that was uninstalled. A new PC-Card was installed per the instructions and just would not work. At first I tried the usual SAFE MODE, checking for motherboard drivers and more. In the end I found that Linksys doesn't delete all that it installs.

It would strain most users to dive into the registry with both REGEDIT and REGEDT32 to eject the last Linksys entries, delete the files manually and then reinstall.

New Wifi card is now just fine.

Add another reason for this one.

My last reply was the solution the last time I ran into this. Again, such gyrations strain most users. Also, not all cards work in all machines or with all routers.

Your post didn't detail if you have the same part and firmware numbers and have the same PC.
