by lfchisholm - 11/9/09 12:07 PMI am getting mail delivery errors. It seems my system is generating e-mails that go to chinese e-mail addresses or sites. I have pasted some of these addresses into google search and using the translation option I can see they are for job postings, hotel listings, and molding services.
How can I find what is generating this??? some have come up at different times for days.'
I have run spybot, malware and addaware programs with no sucess in finding or deleting whatever bug or program that generates these.

You mention "spybot, malware and addaware", but no anti-virus, and any firewall?
Also, you say that 'it seems' your system is generating these emails. How do you know that?
You can see that the forum software doesn't translate Chinese very well, so your copy/paste doesn't help.
What I would do.
1] If you haven't got one already, turn on XP's firewall. It provides some assistance against hacking attempts.
2] If you haven't already, get a recognised anti-virus scanner. Install it, and update it
Before performing a full scan, make sure Spybot's Tea-Timer resident scanner is not running. Spybot does not work well with today's anti-virus utilities. Do the same with Lavasoft's Adaware, (if that is what you have), as it may have an AdWatch resident scanner, or similar.
Then and run a full scan with the anti-virus.
3] Then follow the advice in Grif's post in the link below;

If you are able to download, install and run software on this machine, there is no need to follow all of Grif's advice, just install, update, and scan with the utilities he mentions.
4] Have a look at the following tips, (Provided in other discussions by Jimmy Greystone, another member of the forums);
TIPS FOR A SMOOTH RUNNING SYSTEM

The more of these suggestions you follow, the fewer problems you should have. Follow them all, and you've probably eliminated at least 95% of all potential problem sources.
Things you should NOT do
--------------------------------
1: Use Internet Explorer
2: Use any browser based on Internet Explorer
3: Use Outlook or Outlook Express
4: Open email attachments you haven't manually scanned with your virus scanner
5: Open email attachments you were not expecting, no matter who they appear to be from
6: Respond to spam messages, including using unsubscribe links
7: Visit questionable websites (e.g. porn, warez, hacking)
8: Poke unnecessary holes in your firewall by clicking "Allow" every time some program requests access to the Internet
9: Click directly on links in email messages
10: Use file sharing or P2P programs
11: Use pirated programs
Things you SHOULD do
-----------------------------
1: Use a non-IE or IE based browser
2: Always have an up to date virus scanner running
3: Always have a firewall running
4: Install all the latest security updates (the exception to the no-IE rule)
5: Delete all unsolicited emails containing attachments without reading
6: Manually scan all email attachments with your virus scanner, regardless of whether it's supposed to be done automatically
7: Copy and paste URLs from email messages into your web browser
8: Inspect links copied and pasted into your web browser to ensure they don't seem to contain a second/different address

I use Avast anti virus Home Edition 4.8 or the latest. and the windows firewall.
windows XP sp3
the error is Mail Delivery System delivery status notification.
I thought these messages happen when you try to send to invalid e-mail address from your computer.
I use to run FireFox but went back to IE 8 since on my desk tops at home are running Vista

Where is this computer that you are using where all these messages appear? You explained that you use IE8 because the Desktops at home are running Vista. Does that mean this computer is not at home and is not running Vista?
If this is a work place computer, you need to discuss this problem with the IT Administrator. We can't get involved with that.
If this is a Vista system, you're in the wrong forum anyway, this is the XP forum.

the computer is a laptop we use for away from home
it has windows xp sp3 running on it.
right now I am using FireFox.
anti virus is Avast. also ran a complete scan of my hard drive yesterday.
e-mail program is Incredimail XE

if some spammer sends the mail from another machine using your address somehow (and that can be done without even having access to your account, let alone your machine). In that case, there is no reason to worry.

That is the most likely cause of this.
And as Kees says, no need to be concerned as there is little that can be done about it. In time it will die down.
