Right now I am using Windows Live One Care, plus Scotty on Patrol, please CNET Tech Tracker and CCleaner. I run this program called System Checker from Iolo and it finds all kinds of stuff wrong with this computer. With the registry, security issues. junk files and the health of this pc is real bad according to this program. I just don't know what I should do or which program to buy to clean up all the bad stuff that is on this computer. Any suggestions? Thanks
Why post some of those registry and security issues, junk files and remarks about the general health of your PC? Then we can comment on how serious they are.
Kees
Do you mean that I should post the problems that this program comes up with? You said "why post and I think you mean "why not post" Please clarify and I will do what you are asking me to do. Thanks for the answer so quickly.
Sorry for the typo.
Not the whole list of 200+ messages please. Just a representative selection!

I just finished using the free Iolo System Checkup program and this is what it found.
18 Security flaws
11 mb System Clutter (I run CCleaaner every day)
2 Windows Starup files
1 Invalid uninstaller
This sound kind of serious to me. Is this a good program or will you suggest what I should be using to clean up this computer? Thanks so much for your help.
Loretta
I ran the free scan from http://www.iolo.com/SM/FREEAPP/brands/default/
It said:
- my antivirus (Avast! free) and firewall (Zonealarm free) were OK [nice]
- I have 4512 known security flaws that could allow an attacker access to your personal information or cause irreversible damage [oops]
- A total of 994 MB of system clutter was found on your PC. These junk and redundant files are wasting valuable hard drive space, robbing system performance, and causing potential reliability problems [I don't run ccleaner every day!]
- Your system drive is 43% fragmented, resulting in significant performance bottlenecks and overall loss of system speed. [defrag agrees and although it mostly are files I never access I might do that shortly]
- My system memory levels passed
- My current Internet configuration settings are not optimized.
- A total of 2 dangerous or unnecessary program(s) were detected that have been configured to start automatically with Windows. These programs are slowing your system and in many cases endangering your data, privacy, and security. [I ran msconfig and could find 1, left there by a comparable program from Uniblue, that I had uninstalled already so it didn't do anything, all others were needed or useful]
- I had no registry problems and no broken shortcuts
- A total of 12 invalid uninstaller(s) currently exist on your system. Invalid uninstallers result in annoying errors and, most importantly, the inability to remove programs you want to get rid of.
- Hard drive health failed. Immediate repair is recommended, as system drive problems are a leading cause of unexpected data corruption and even total system failure.
So I see no reason at all to pay them $49.95 for a one-year license of System Mechanic. I try to maintain my system rather well and there's nothing obviously wrong, as far as I know.
Your figures are much better, it seems. That's why I wrote: "lucky you".
Kees
I have the very strong impression it emptied my Recycle Bin without asking me. I HATE programs that do changes on my system without telling me. So, whatever program you choose to maintain your system, don't use any program from iolo.
Kees
Wow man this Iolo program tells you that you have more problems than I do. Now I don't feel so bad. I am going to uninstall it and ignore everything it told me. Too bad about your recycle bin. What programs do you use to keep your computer safe and sound and up to date? If you want to tell me that is? Maybe I should just stick with Windows Live One Care? Thanks for all your help, Loretta
I've Avast! antivirus and Zonealarm Firewall. And Windows Defender. And occasionally I run a MBAM scan, but last time it found nothing at all.
Ccleaner is fine and useful, but I prefer to delete unneeded files myself. But I installed it on my daughters laptop, made a 'clean icon' on her desktop and instructed her to click that before clicking her 'backup icon'. I didn't study the effect, however. She might better off with some non-default settings.
There might be some left, of course. But with 180 GB out of 233 GB free I don't really care about last 300 Mb.
Occasionally I defrag. And of course I do all Windows updates. And I use Firefox more than I use Internet Explorer. And I don't do registry cleaners.
That's all I need to keep my PC very workable. And quite safe, I think.
Kees
Thanks so much for everything. You have been very helpful to me. Keep well. Loretta
