Jeep Grand Cherokee Radio/Electrical Issues

by shapterjm - 10/27/09 12:54 AM

I'll try to keep this brief: I have three major issues, one which is more important to me than the others.

The two issues of lesser importance are the intermittent operation of the power locks. Sometimes they'll work when I press the lock button on the driver's or passenger's control panel, sometimes they won't. The other lesser issue is that the interior lights stay on with the doors closed. I've checked all the switches on the door frames. I ended up having to pull the fuse so that my battery wasn't depleted.

The major issue I'm having is a nasty feedback through all four speakers. I've been assured that the speakers themselves are functional, and I replaced the radio hoping that would solve it, but no dice. Could it be electrical? I have no idea what to begin looking for. I just replaced the alternator (after being told I needed to replace the ECC and getting my hopes up that it would fix all my problems), and it was a HUGE hassle, so I'm rather exasperated at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

Please? Does anyone know anything that could help me? I'm extremely frustrated, and I can't afford to take it to an auto/audio specialist to figure it out.

First off is the intermittent door locks and int. lights. Since I dont` know the year of your Jeep I`ll I`ll give it a go. A big problems with power doors, int. lights, etc. The culprit in these cars is the wire bundle from the front of the door at the hinges. It`s covered with a rubber boot. You can make a small cut in the rubber to see if the wires show cracks in the insulation or even broken wires. Do not fix broken wire at this point as it wont last long with the door always opening and closing. Any bad wires have to be attached inside the car at the area where the wires go to the door. The other end has to be threaded to the door inside. You will need to remove the door panel to gain access the wires. Solder all con. if possible. Lastly; Replace the door switch for the int. lights. Hope this helps.
