Best Podcast Manager for Windows

by markvc - 9/9/09 3:41 AM

It's been ages since I've listened to podcasts, and I'd like to start listening to a few again and am wondering what is currently the best podcast manager for windows right now?

I was dejected to see when I installed Windows 7 that WMP12 does not have podcast support in it, and I quite like that player and use it for pretty much everything. I have zero desire to install iTunes as over the years it's just been more trouble than it's worth.

So some suggestions please!

Thanks!

Zune Software

Check out the Zune software. It is great for podcasts and media playback. The Zune can also stream videos and music to an Xbox 360 or PS3. It is great software and free.

Does that work with other mp3 players?

There ARE some nice features--like auto-deleting podcasts after you listen to them--but I'm not sure that the software works with anything but Zunes.

Well..

I own an iPod, but honestly I only use it when I'm running and listen to music on it. The podcast manager can just be used for windows only and doesn't need to worry about syncing to anything.

I'll check out the Zune software, but I'm not sure how well it integrates with WMP 12 if at all? I'm still perplexed why WMP 12 doesn't have podcasting support built in to it.

Well then

Maybe just look at Juice(nee iPodder). A bit weak on tagging but solid basic reliability. You decide the directory to d/l the podcasts to, point WMP to same place and it all just happens. I used it for my Zen for years and all just fine for no-frills.
Have heard lots of people talk about Media Monkey too---much more powerful--haven't used it myself but maybe take each out for a spin?

Thanks

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll try both of them out today. It's honestly been well over a year since I've listened to podcasts, actually longer now that I think of it. I pretty much stopped listening when Veronica left because that's about the time I ended up moving to a place that had... *gasp*... dialup only!

Tho living by the lake was nice ;)

Zune - Other MP3 players

by jdh415s - 9/9/09 6:03 PM In reply to: Thanks by markvc

I don't think the Zune software will sync with any players other than the Zune. It is disappointing but Zune and WMP do not intergrate at all.

Went with Juice

So Juice is pretty much what I was looking for so I've gone with that. There's a few things I don't like about it, like it's not letting me double click just to play the file I want to, I have to right click and select it in the menu, but oh well.

Zen's software for podcasts

by Joey301 - 11/2/09 6:46 AM In reply to: Well then by DangMI

I have used the Zen software for podcasts. I was also looking for some way to use the new Microsoft Media on my Win7 for podcast support so that I could use it for all of my devices. However, I did not find any podcast support either, and I was glad to see that verified here. The Zen software does a nice thing by cleaning out all podcasts to the number you decide to maintain on your hard drive and mp3 player. I have an iPod in the family too, but for the Zen, I found their software to be easier since if you find the URL for the podcast, it still maintains the number of entries that you keep and the URL is easy to add. Probably anyone who listens to NPR will want podcasts.

The thing about itunes....

by Magishine - 11/6/09 8:00 PM In reply to: unfortunately for you iTunes is def the best. by robstak

....is that it's become incredibly bloated over the years. I abhor having to use the thing. It tries to do way too much if you use it as your main player.
