Okay! Its that time of year again when I have to find the best gadget for my boyfriend... Unfortunately the only thing he doesn't have is a surround sound system for his game room. I need great sound quality and a receiver that supports XBOX 360, PS3, Wii, Netflix, blue ray compatibility, IPOD and anything else you can imagine a tech-freak/gamer would want. I have searched and searched for good descriptions and even called boston acoustics for advice. I am still confused and almost purchased a denon something or other from amazon that seemed alright, but alas I found this site to be the most useful! Can anyone help me?????
Things like IPOD are not surround capable. You want way too much.
But he should be happy with Creative gigaworks thing. Like S750 maybe.
you sure about that? I just read up on a receiver that has a IPOD usb port. Have any system suggestions?
Receivers can turn 2.0 into 5.0 audio on the right setting.
For the Ipod part just get a 3.5mm jack to RCA (red & white for left and right audio) and pulg it in that way. Most receivers that say Ipod compatable, you have to pay extra for the adaptor and those run for $50 to $100, an 3.mm to RCA cable costs $2-$20 depending on langth and cable quality.
What is your budget?
Umm I'm looking to spent $500 but only if I can get what he needs. If that's not possible I don't want to waste the money. I am primarily looking for a great gaming/movie surround sound system, with the capability of hooking up each console.
(Home Theater in a box). It has everything... receiver, blu-ray player, 5 speakers and a sub all in one package. The best reviewed one I have seen is this Samsung:

Lucky for you, Amazon has it for 499 ![]()

he may not need the built in Blu-ray player so you could see if Samsung sells the same system without Blu-ray and save a little bit.
Minimalist, you have been so helpful. Thank you so much! And thanks CNET for providing a great forum!
I think my main concern is the input availability. He would def want to be able to connect his xbox 360, ps3, wii, and tv to the system... is the surround you suggested capable? I see
# Component video out: 1
# Composite video out: 1
# HDMI-CEC out: 1PC input (15-pin, D-Sub): 1
# Optical in: 1,2
will that work??
inputs at all. Maybe you ought to consider an Onkyo system as they are loaded with HDM and component inputs. Here are two that might work:

You have helped so much!! That was definitely what i was looking for and really appreciate all of your help! Just purchased s600 on Amazon!!!
