Block product reviews
by offilerm - 10/30/09 10:40 AMIs there anyway to prevent products from being reviewed by "users" days and weeks before a product is released? Ive used CNET for user / editor reviews for almost every electronic item I own to get a general feel for it.. but Im tired of checking a review on things like a phone that gets released with 35 reviews on the product the day before its available with people commenting on previous versions, how they think it will be based on other reviews and haters just leaving bad reviews because they dont like the company that makes it. I know once a product is out, all those reviews will pop up anyway, but it will give people that actually care about reviews a chance to read legit user reviews (and those reviewers to write them) along with more acccurate ratings before the hordes spoil them. I cant be the only one that feels that way either, right?

Let me talk to the CNET Reviews product manager to see what we can do to curb this type of review posting when the product has not been released to the general public.

I appreciate at least an attempt. I’ve been holding until the release of the Droid (on 6 NOV) for a new phone to see some user reviews of the Droid compared to the Storm 2 and iPhone 3GS, and the Droid started 'fresh' with 37 Reviews, all dated Nov 5th or earlier..
Perhaps have a separate option for "comments" so those that feel compelled to can express their thoughts before the release without actually messing with user reviews / ratings. I don’t know, just trying to throw some ideas out there. Like I said earlier I’ve been using Cnet for years and check it almost daily for reviews, technology news/ wireless/ security info… and Ill keep coming back. Thanks.

Yes, this is an idea we have been talking about for years and I'm going to make a huge effort to get this going and work with the Reviews product manager to figure a solution to implement a comment section to allow people to talk about the product before it is released.
