I'm trying to decide between these two models. I understand the technical differences, but I don't understand whether the longer zoom and wider lens on the 940 will be worth $60 for an amateur photographer who is just looking to take pictures of her random adventures. My goal is to take pictures that look good without a lot of adjusting (both before and after taking the shot). Is it worth it to get the pricier model, or are my needs simple enough that I don't need it? When would you WANT/NEED a wide-angle lens?
The 4X optical times 28mm equals 112mm maximum focal length.
The 3X optical times 33mm equals 100mm maximum focal length.
Hardly enough difference to matter.
Wide angle:
If you are into real estate, interior decorating, or construction the wide angle is a must.
For the average person, wide angle is useful about 2% of the time.
Viewfinder:
The SD780 has an optical viewfinder, the SD940 does not.
When you get into very bright sunlight, the LCD display becomes reflective and almost impossible to see because of the sun glare.
That is when the optical viewfinder comes to the rescue.
..
.
Thanks, this is really helpful.
