XLR cable inputs

by sirkibble2 - 10/29/09 12:34 PM

I'm looking for a camera that has XLR inputs for audio but I'm not sure what they would be defined as in the Specifications sheet. Would it say something like "XLR input" or something else? Sorry if the question is unclear as even I'm a bit unclear as to what the proper terminology may or may not be.

"XLR inputs" or XLR-something would be

on the spec sheet.

As far as new camcorders are concerned prosumer camcorders like the Canon GL2, Sony HDR-FX7 and HDR-FX1000 have a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo jack - but an XLR adapter like those from juicedLink (CX231) and BeachTek (DXA-6) provide the requisite connectors.

Starting at the low end and sort of working up the $ ladder - those that come with XLR audio-in connectors:
Sony HVR-A1U
Panasonic AG-DVX100 (a/b)
Canon XL2
Sony HVR-V1U
Canon XHA1
Sony HVR-Z5
JVC GY-HM100
Sony HVR-Z1
Panasonic AG-HVX200
Canon XLH series
Sony HDCAM and XDCAM series

This list is REALLY incomplete, but gets you deep in the ballpark.

You can use the XLR adapters on any consumer-grade camcorder (like a Canon HV40) with a 1/8" (3.5mm) audio-in jack...
