DISK BOOT FAILURE INSTALLING WINDOWS7
by dataplus7 - 10/26/09 6:29 AMI replaced my Vista hard drive and installed windows 7 on a new drive.
The installation went as shown many sites but after completion the PC only boots if the windows 7 disk is in my CD drive otherwise I get a message "DISK BOOT FAILURE - INSERT SYSTEM DISK"
I have checked the BIOS menu and the disk is recognissed ( and in fact the windows 7 on it works fine after booting using the system disk)
I have also checked the boot menu and the disk is set to be booted from.
I have reinserted the vista disk whilst trying to resolve the problem without any ill effects.
I have found the BIOS is slightly out of date by six months but I can not yet get an updated BIOS from MESH

If I insert the system disk in my CD drive I get the message "Press a key to load from CD" (or something like this)
If I do not press a key the system boots into Windows 7 perfectly proving that the hard drive connections are OK
Next step.
by edwardr74 - 10/28/09 2:11 PM In reply to: DISK BOOT FAILURE INSTALLING WINDOWS7 by dataplus7Ok. Have you reset your BIOS to the defaults? Have you tested your hard disk? I know if you are using a western digital drive they have their data lifeguard diagnostics that can be run from a bootable CD.
