Building new comp from scratch, this setup sound ok?

by KasceisG1 - 10/26/09 8:22 PM

Building a new comptuer, I haven't built a new one in like 6 years, I'm long overdue for an upgrade. Now, hopefully I can figure out how to put all this junk together.. Might need some advice on how to throw all this stuff together, I need someone who knows what they are talking about and tell me if this looks good.

Not sure which video card to get... need some advice. Should I wait for the Direct X 11 cards to come out or what?
Also, OS will be Win 7.

core i7-860 obsoletes and is faster than u7-920 at the same price. i7-800 series requires p55 based mobo so consider EVGA P55 LE 123-LF-E653-KR.

p55 uses dual channel ddr3 so change your memory kit to CORSAIR XMS3 4GB ($81)

a caviar "green" is an odd choice for a high performance pc since spindle speed varies. suggest a caviar "black" for best performance.

unless you plan on overclocking, stick with the stock cooler that comes with the CPU... it's fine for most folks.

dx11 cards are already out. the entire ati radeon hd5000 series has dx11 support and nvidia has some low-end cards with dx11 support but they're not suitable for gaming. radeon hd 5850 ($270) or hd 5870 ($390) are great for gaming. nvidia's gaming cards (based on 'fermi' chip) won't be out till late december/early 2010.
