USB Device not recognized

by wakeriderxti - 10/18/09 5:59 PM

I could use some help... My 2 year old iPod is no longer syncing with my computer. I have an 80 GB iPod that has been functioning fine, but no longer sync or charge by computer (Dell laptop - Vista). I have also tried connecting to another computer (XP) but I receive the same error message. Any ideas what has happened?

Sync cable has been replaced
iTunes uninstalled and re-installed
iPod has been reset multiple times
Tried on multiple computers and won't sync with either
Won't recharge with a dedicated charger
WILL charge and play when connected to a stereo with a docking station

I'm baffled and could use some help. Is the iPod toast???

Just an idea.

Try another USB port on the desktop. The rear ones are best.

For laptops be sure it's on AC power before plugging in the pod.

iPod physical damage?

Is the edge connector in the bottom of your iPhone damaged? My kid had a mini and she fractured the card coming out of the iPod and exposed in the bottom slot so that the connection became intermittent.
