Bought two Dell laptops which came with Vista. Did not appreaciate Vista. Windows 7 RC became available. Tried it on one laptop. Quickly set it up on the other. Pre-ordered retail version, which has now arrived. Shall spend today installing Windows 7 on both laptops. Tomorrow will be given to an older machine, currently running XP.
Everything has worked, without a hitch, for months. Suits me.

We have four computers in our household. Three are running XP Pro, but are capable of running Vista/Win 7. The other a laptop recently purchased came with Vista installed. We are very satisfied with XP Pro and don't see the real need to upgrade to Win 7. Also we don't want the headache of having to reinstall all of our software. We did the upgrade test and the three XP Pro machines passed with only some potential problems with some software. It seems those who run out and upgrade right away are no more than extended Beta testers. Another reason for us not to upgrade is the Microsoft support for their products is a joke, its like buying a car with an "As Is" sticker on it. I just had to return an upgrade to the Expression Studio 3 product when it would not install and Microsoft support wanted to charge $259 to resolve the issue, three days after we received the software. I'm waiting to see how Win 7 really does, my next computer might be a MAC.

I shall stick with Vista for the time being until the bugs in 7 have been found and sorted out and the price of 7 has come down. Actually, I thin we should be given a free upgrade from what even Microsoft admits is a pretty poor OS to the, we hope, properly soted version.
Why not both: install Windows 7 and leaving Vista and/or XP.

Why haven’t you predicted in the poll another possibility: I’m going to buy and install Windows 7 on a new partition/disk, leaving Vista and XP on my computer in multiboot configuration.
Am I the only user who NEVER “upgrades” his old system but ALWAYS installs a new system on a new partition, leaving the old ones working. No risk and I’m never frustrated as I can always use old systems for programs or drivers that doesn’t work or work worse on a new one.

Win XP furnishes everything needed for the mass majority of computer users. Win 7 may be new and fascinating, but it is basically a cure for a problem that was never there. Before long there will be Win 8 which will replace Win 7. I realize that constant changes are part of marketing to keep the profits rolling in, but these ongoing changes really are not needed when viewed from a practical view point. For me, Win XP is an excellent operating system that I will keep forever if I can.

Unlike Vista, the launch of Window 7 was not accompanid by hype. As the saying goes, the proof of pudding is in eating which many Vista users realised as also evident from Microsoft's decision to launch the current Window 7 venture with alacricity' I feel give the devil its due. The creators of Window XP Pro can surely correct the problem posed by Vista. I am quite exited about the launch of Window 7 and this is sure to make computing a richer experience. Recently I had assembled a new computer with Intel Core Two quad 2.6 G Hz processor requiring 4GB DDR 2 RAM, all in anticipation of the intended upgrade to Window 7.

All that one needs is a system that covers the individuals needs, and that's all. I do realize that some people do get off on claiming that they have the biggest and baddest computer in the entire neighborhood, but that compares to driving a car around that is capable of going 200mph plus at speeds within legal limits.

I'm not upgrading,seems that having previous Windows is not a benefit to upgrade. Not everything in W-7 is diferent from XP, so just let us buy only what we need to upgrade.
¿What is next? Windows ?, in what time 1 year, this is only windows greed, as I said, let us buy only the upgrade version

I have been using PCLinuxOS, a very good distribution of the Linux operating system,for almost one year. Linux has a lot to offer for the desktop user. The community of helpers and contributors is fantastic.
However I am using a photo scanner that is not supported by Linux yet, so until a driver is written or I get a supported scanner, I will be using Windows XP for photo scanning. After scanning, I move all files to the Linux system for editing.

I used to use a Canon flatbed scanner (and still occasionally use it since it has a film/slide adapter) and it works OK, too.

No way would i even consider installing the latest microsoft gimick ! I was warned months ago not to download explorer 8 so didnt . However recently in a moment of careless madness i did indeed download it ....*** ? Nightmare almost immediately...every time i went to a link a warning came up & shut me down ....EVERY TIME .! So i did a system restore to the previous day thinking that this would solve the problem ....not a chance. Now i cannot get onto the web at all ....Period ! I connect, can even go on Google Earth ...but its as if i now have NO Internet Explorer at all..even thought explorer 7 is still showing as a programme. I emailed to ask for help but so far all that i have received from the mindless microsoft morons is a message that reads . .....We understand that you wish to uninstall Explorer 8, Why .?
So any suggestions would come in handy .

MSIE 8 problems

(I'm speaking from experience here since I inadvertently let MS update me and had to revert after MSIE 8 totally screwed up my desktop.) Instead, why not install Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera? I only keep MSIE (7!) on my Windows PC because there are some programs that expect it. For most normal browsing, I use Firefox - which is set as my default browser.
Besides, if you get used to using Firefox, Chrome, or Opera, you'll be set when you're ready to cut the M$ umbilical and move to Linux. 
Most likely I'll stay with XP.

I'm unsure of quite a lot of things:
- how to do it
- if I can find all necessary drivers
- what applications are (not) compatible (all I know: Outlook Express isn't)
- how to return to the old situation if it doesn't work out
- how much time it will take
- what my wife will think about the new situation
- how to finally get rid of XP if Windows 7 works to my satisfaction
- if there are any advantages
So I think my Windows 7 Ultimate DVD will rest in the archives next to its Windows Vista Home Premium cousin, that's unused also.
