WHY I WILL WAIT WINDOWS 7 SERVICE PACK 1?

by francisco1de9jess46 - 10/23/09 9:00 PM

History has told us ON all windows versions, specially with vista that if preferely to wait the SP1 to buy or upgrade your version of your latest windows software. Generally all or some drivers will not be there for some hardwares you use, and maybe some of your software wonīt yet work properly.IMHO.

I know windows 7 is a great software, better than vista. But I will upgrade to it when SP1 is available.

And what

And what would you do if Microsoft just decided to stop releasing service packs in the future? They've been moving in that direction more and more lately. NT4 had about 7 service packs, Win2000 had 4 after the fifth was aborted just a little before release, XP had 3, Vista had 2 (since no more are planned)... Win7 may just not have any.

And yes, you could say Win7 is like SP3 for Vista, but let's try and act like adults about this, shall we?

I agree!

I myself wait awhile to purchase new software only to learn from forums like this what to expect when I do install it. I don't care who makes the software. There are always bugs.

Beta tested Windows 7. That means more hardware and software combinations were tested then any software ever. When you have that many people Beta test you can get alot of the bugs out befroe release.

Sorry to burst the bubble

Sorry to burst the bubble there, but Win7 was rammed through way too fast for there to have been much impact by people running the beta and RC releases.

Win7 was really only under heavy development for about 6 months. Microsoft was cranking out builds fast and furious, and there just wasn't a lot of time to sift through all the reports people generated. I'm sure they did go through some, but most likely they picked a few high value clients and monitored their experiences.

Taken what I said in my first post.

and not every issue was yet attended.

For all you guys first I want to thank you for participating on it.

TO ALL : I am not saying DONīT BUY Windows 7 , because I am going to buy it, but later.

Taken what I said in my first post.
What I will recommend to users who has a lot of softwares and use hardware that requires a driver update for running on windows 7, just go to your original supplier of each and get the update I hope they will have it.

In other cases when you use the basic softwares and hardwares with your computer , suggest just to buy windows 7. Hope your printer will work.

But is up to you in any case, it is your decision.

And so how will waiting help?

by Jimmy Greystone - 10/24/09 8:03 PM In reply to: Taken what I said in my first post. by francisco1de9jess46

And so how will waiting help? Honestly, if your printer (or whatever) doesn't work now, what's 6-12 months going to mean? Besides that, this is a similar situation as XP, in that the driver model didn't change from Win2K, or Vista in the case of Win7, so as long as there's a Vista driver, you should be able to get it to work.

And there's just no way "every issue" will be taken care of in a program as big as Windows. But the fact that Microsoft actually spent 6 months just polishing Vista, and adding only a smattering of new features is something that hasn't been seen since WinNT 3.51 where the developers had a couple extra months to bug fix and fine tune the release while they waited on Intel to release the 486.

There's really nothing to be gained by waiting. Almost everyone who claims they're going to wait, does so because they want to be able to gloat when others have problems. It's about being right, more than it is avoiding problems. That's not really my thing. I'm a very curious person, and I see the mistakes I'll invariably make along the way as just another way to learn something new.
