I have two i-mac and one with 10.6.1 and the other with 10.5.8 I would wait till 10.6.2 is out or later. I have had problems with 10.6.1

I'd recommend waiting, but I never do.

Yes, I agree with last poster, wait for 10.6.2, but update ur machine to 10.5.8, which is very stable. I've updated half dozen machines now to 10.6.0/1, and all had minor glitches, but none had the horrible switch users, loose data bug some have gone through. The most important thing for you is that u install snow-leopard compatible versions of software as you fill up your applications folder. Use the console messages to watch for errors, and try to have that cleaned up before upgrading to leopard. It's really worth the upgrade, as performance is a bit better and it takes about 10gb less hdd space. good luck!

Upgrade to Snow Leopard?

by johnlh - 10/28/09 8:25 AM In reply to: switch to snowleopard ?? by tapasdesai

I have always taken the position of not upgrading to a new OS until it has been on the market for at least 6 months to a year. By that time other software companies will have had time to upgrade their applications, drivers, etc and you will have the benefit of reading the various Snow problems people have written in about. When I do upgrade I ALWAYS have a backup clone of my HD on an external drive in case some serious problems develop. This is me and you will find many who change over the day the new OS comes out and apparently have few problems. Much will depend on what software you run on your system. I am about to purchase a new Mac PowerBook Pro and I will keep Leopard on it or maybe even Tiger until I am satisfied Snow has all the glitches repaired and it will run all my software and hardware. Good Luck and backup what ever you do.

Snow Leopard Apps

by HarryO53 - 10/29/09 1:07 AM In reply to: Upgrade to Snow Leopard? by johnlh

I have found that software writers have scrambled to update their apps to run with Snow Leopards 64 bit kernal. I have yet to find an app that won't run in Snow Leopard's default 32 kernal mode.

Office 2004

by macnerd10 - 10/29/09 9:06 AM In reply to: Snow Leopard Apps by HarryO53

PowerPoint is very finicky under SL, although it is Rosetta-based. Looks like Rosetta under SL is not that good compared to Leopard. I had to switch to Office 2008 because of the unresponsive PPT and saw many posts to this effect.
