Dock Problems after Snow Leopard installation

by jhbkongdotmac - 9/6/09 11:51 PM

I have upgraded 4 macs (iMac 24″; MBP 17 and MBP 15 and iBook) for 10 days+
Now MBP17 (4GB RAM) having serious issues with DOCK; Expose and Spaces….
- DOCK hangs when I try to open MAIL… then disappears until I reboot.
- Expose and Spaces do not work -have had to swtich them off as they lose all their settings.
Reinstalled from scratch and everything was well for 3 days… now back to same problems.
-also in DOCK preference setting... I cannot activate "Automatically Hide and Show"... the setting will not activate at all.
- COMMAND (Apple) + TAB = Application Switcher will not work!!
SO without the DOCK, I have to go to Applications (in Finder) or Recent Items to lauch apps!!!!

All 4 machines I upgrade are similar except for CPU, RAM and Hard-disk size.
Running same apps (except for APERTURE on MBP 17 on the culprit machine!!!
SO can anyone advise? thanks
James

"Obvious" all done

have done the various as you suggested... but problem continues.

So have also been into preferences and trashed the various dock prefs
NOW seems OK after erasing the prefs.
So my current assumption is somehow the prefs becames corrupted but not sure why it should have happened.!!??

It's not unusual for the Prefs to become corrupted

Good thing about them is that they are instantly recreated as soon as you launch the application to which they belong, albeit with the default settings but that's better than having the thing crash.

only Dock?

This is interesting. Does it mean that the programs would run fine if opened from within the applications folder, and only Dock was the culprit? Wow. I would think that after repairing permissions, all would be well... Anyway, good to know. And kudos for resolving the issue!

I had the same issue with factory install of snow leopard on a brand new Macbook pro. Dock freeze on launching Mail. Very odd. And then you can't minimize anything and such. I tried deleting the preferences. So far so good. Thanks.

1- i-mac 2.8, 2 G ram
2- all applications are slower,
3- Unable to repair dick permissions
4- DiskWarrior 4.2 does not work, I have downloaded it twice and burned to CD. Email developer and they gave instructions to how keys down but that does not work.
