Upgrading from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit

by wililink30 - 10/22/09 6:20 PM

Hi, I just bought the Windows 7 home premium upgrade as a download from the microsoft store including the dvd (delayed). I have a Dell dimension E521 2 years ago with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 3600+ 1.9ghz, 1gb ram and Vista 32bit installed. I was wondering, can I upgrade from 32bit Vista to 64bit 7? I'm planning on up to 4gb of ram to be able to run 64bit 7. If I can run 64bit 7 will it run 32bit applications, and of course will there be horrible hardware driver issues like with Vista when it first came out? Also, if I download and install Windows 7 32bit can I install the 64bit version later on? I would appreciate any advice/info that anybody can give me, thanks.

It's been answered a million times. I don't mean to sound rude, but you'd be hard pressed to come up with an original question on anything related to installing Win7. Very little has changed since the days of Win95 in the overall process, and what has changed has been very well documented for those who master the art of the search engine.
