I uninstalled Pest Patrol and used Registry Mechanic to clean it up.
On my Recycle Bin, I right-click it and there's a message there that says "Scan directory with eTrust Pest Patrol". I want to know how I can delete this message since it doesn't apply anymore.
I'm running Windows XP with SP3.
Tom_SF, You could try the Revo Uninstaller which is Free at the link below and see if any remnants of eTrust Pest Patrol show up and then remove them or manually edit the registry. Start>Run> type in regedit, click OK then click the Edit on the Menu bar click Find and type in eTrust Pest Patrol. Delete any instances of eTrust Pest Patrol you find. It's good practice to create a new System Restore Point prior to editing the registry

Pest Patrol then made use of Registry Mechanic it would appear that the uninstall was incomplete and that Registry Mechanic doesn't do the job.
The place to look in the registry is in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID where the actual key can simply be deleted.
Easiest way to locate it is to browse to that key then search for the phrase "Scan directory with eTrust" (without the quotes). When it is located you simply delete the entire CLSID (the key named with a number such as HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00000010-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4} that the phrase is a sub directory of )
All gone.
Found it in the registry and zapped it. Thanks.
