"Pc" and "Mac": Are you aware that they are the same?

by white-bread - 8/13/09 10:30 AM

PC means "personal computer." This was a campaign started by IBM to sell a product. "Mac" means Macintosh and refers to the operating system. Until recently, Apple had depended on the m68k and PPC architectures to run their Operating system releases upon. Any computer with any architecture that is being applied to residential "home use" including mainframes and supercomputers can be considered a PC. Currently, Apple has its operating system releases for the amd64 and x86 architectures.

PC and OS Wars are no longer in vogue. Why not just tell us what you want? Better yet, what do you buy?

Anything old and outdated to be able to install a *nix system on it. the challenge is bringing the dead back to life then just giving it away.

Im not that savvy with the theory and buiseness side of PC and MAC, but why do i like MAC better that Microsofts pc?

A mac is damm rite sexy, and whoever though an imac needs to be watercooled with a beige case in order to maintain stability and looks?

Aesthetics have very little to do with function in the world of computers.
Apple uses parts from UNIX and its descendants for the Mac OS releases.

Some differences between them

-> The Windows operating system is based on the DOS programing language, while Mac is based on Unix.

-> Windows is criticized for having less number of features as compared to Mac. Moreover, it is less responsive to higher amounts of computing operations. On the contrary, Macintosh boasts of a rich feature set and ease of use.

-> Similar functions that are executable on both Macintosh and Windows differ in their terminology. For example, the function of the Control key in Windows corresponds to that of the Command key on Macs. The Command prompt on Windows is known as the Terminal on Mac.

-> The Windows control panel corresponds to System Preferences on Mac. Macintosh and Windows differ in file navigation and management, keyboard shortcuts and certain other computer operations. Also, window controls, menu bars and mouse buttons differ in their functionality in both the operating systems.
