My jeep runs fine but the windows won't work and the gauges are dead. Sometimes the air conditioner won't blow cold. I replaced the battery and everything worked for a few days but is back to doing the same old things. Everytime the battery is charged, things work for a short time.I am about to give up unless someone has some ideas. The last person who looked at it said the computer probably had a glitch in it. Then someone said the circuit board to the cluster was shorted out. Anyone have any ideas?
I would start by having your alternator tested. Does the problem come and go as your driving or it stays the same until you charge the battery?
I had someone check the alternater,it was okay. I bought a new battery and the windows and gauges worked for two days then quit again. I had the battery charged a few days ago and again they worked for a short time. Nothing is working now. I have taken it to the jeep dealer and to an electrical shop but they can't figure it out. The man at the electrical shop said something about his computer couldn't communicate with the jeep computer and the jeep dealer said they thought maybe it might be the circuit board to the cluster but that wouldn't have anything to do with the windows. It all happened at once so I didn't spend the thousand dollars for the circuit board. I don't have anyone to really help me. That's why I joined this forum, hoping someone would have some ideas. Thank you for responding.
Hi there
Did you get the problem sorted out, as mine is dong the same thing.
The good news is that new batteries fix the problems for awhile. The bad news is that it would take a long time to tell you to try this, then that, then this if that doesn't work, etc. There's something in the electrical system that's amiss but it will take alot of diagnostic action to determine what it is.
As for your a/c not blowing cool, it's most likely a matter of it being low on freon. Yes, there may be a small, slow leak (which is what I have in my '00 Grnd Chkee Ltd) but it's easier and far less expensive to just recharge it yourself with a $15 can of freon from Walmart - a pressure meter is included so you can verify it's low first. You might have to do this once or twice a year depending on how much you use your a/c. Good luck.
